Question on trade conduct

9. The deal isn't done until everyone agrees. If you've agreed on an inspection period, don't spend the money until it's over.

10. Last but not least -Ethics & Common sense are not optional. We are a thriving community because our membership has high standards for their fellows. If you do screw someone on a deal (buying or selling), being banned is nothing compared to having the postal inspectors come after you for Mail Fraud. People have a long memory about bad experiences.

That pretty much covers it. The inspection period "clause" is to avoid bad feelings. Having not agreed to the inspection period does not absolve you of clause #10.

Since you edited your original post in your Busse trade thread it is impossible to know if you gave a full description of the grind marks on the spine of the blade. Your photos don't show those marks at all. Hopefully you gave a full and accurate description of the condition of the knife. The photos do show the obvious problem with the tip of the knife, but if there were other condition issues, these issues should have been very clearly stated in the description given, and stating that the knife was used is not good enough.

I guess we have learned here that not everyone that trades on Bladeforums operates under the same code of conduct. It has been discussed over, and over, and over that a deal is not a deal until both parties are satisfied. However, that is not a written rule, so I guess we all have to be careful in our future dealings, unless of course you know you are dealing with someone that follows the unwritten rule of this forum.

I actually think the best rule to follow when dealing with someone is the golden rule. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

this i agree with which is why i did not trade back because when i was dissatisfied i did not request a tradeback, i sucked it up.

as for this example i think you have misread this if you read carfully the caveat is that "being banned is nothing compared to having the postal inspectors come after you for Mail Fraud" it has nothing to do with me moddlecoddling a dissatisfied tradee.

but like i said before no more trades without the inspection period clause.
so that no one could complain.

It has been discussed over, and over, and over that a deal is not a deal until both parties are satisfied.

i know this now because you guys are saying this but in my less then 3 months in this forum i have spent my time in trading and reading posts on knives and wine and cheese, not on the good bad and ugly.
i guess i should have.

Broos, I understand the ethics of it all, but you also need to heed the addage "caveat emptor". You're both at fault, to a certain extent, but if you can't work it out, write it off as a lesson in business. As a buyer, research is imperative. As a seller, you should wait until the other party has received their end of the trade and is satisfied - this way, neither party has to feel as though they've been slighted.

That being said, have you though about sending it to Busse and simply having them re-grind it? I'm sure they would do it. Just a thought.

I was sort of thinking along the same lines as you. Jerry might be able to make it right, probably at little to no cost to you. Give Amy-O a call and explain the situation. Again, it may not be free, but I doubt you'll come away feeling taken advantage of all over again.

Sorry to hear this happened. I've always gone by the rule that the trade is complete when both parties are happy and it seems to work well for me. Why would anyone want to stick anyone else with a trade they were unhappy with? Hope things work out for you.

Well said.

It is always sad to see someone place the value of an object over the value of mutual respect and cooperation in a community like Bladeforums. Just my .02.

The other thing that Nelly1974 does not realize is how much posts like this hurt his reputation, HERE.

I have done business with over 40 different Forumites in the last year. Not likely that nelly1974 will be one in the next year. Too many possible/probable issues, and most of the Pirates probably won't either, arrrr!!!!.

Straight to the point, BGoblin. Echoes my thoughts exactly. It's gentlemanly behavior. Being a gentleman is a good thing.

Kohai isn't the only person who won't deal with you.

Everyone is watching this thread, with an attitude like that, how many people do you think will do business with you now? (this is a question for you to ask yourself)

It is also highly suggested that you read the forum rules...all of them...before starting to post. As members who planned on making deals on BFC reading TB&U and all related rules of The Exchange should have been the first thing you did. An inspection period is a given. Reps are made and damaged based on how well you conduct yourselves. I have done tons of sales and trades on BFC. I have had no problems with anyone I have delt with. The system is in place for both of your protection. I would chalk this up as a learning experience for the both of you. Both of you have learned something over this I'm sure. I would not tell you not to deal with each other any more. You can both get past this little misunderstanding. Stop with the insults and move on.

Take it to email and be civil about coming to an agreement both of you are satisfied with.

The golden rule doesn't say do to other what has been done to you. It says to do to others what you would want to have done to you. Did you want to be treated the way you were in those other deals? You state that you were dissatisfied, so obviously it wasn't the way you wanted to be treated. The fact that you got mistreated and sucked it up has nothing to do with how you should treat others.

Broos: As a side note, contact Garth at Busse knives and he can do anything that can be done on one of their knives.

I'm pretty sure 'tip missing' is an important thing to note when trading used blades.

I'm also pretty sure nelly won't be getting many takers on the exchange any more.

FWIW if it was me and somebody was that unhappy i'd just swap back and be done with it.

but to each there own, i dont suppose ya really have to do that.

i really couldnt tell anything from the pics, but it looked new to me from what i could see.

i suppose it would boil down to how the knife was described imho.
