Quick question about a situation with USPS

Glad to see I got my side of the story fairly represented instead of just being jumped on by everyone and their dog.

To clarify, yes this was my first purchase from bladeforums. Yes its a P.O. box (creepy how people are trying to look up my address). No, I did NOT say I would check the box "that evening or the next day", I said I would check it "soon". I usually make the trip to check it once a month. I assumed that once it reached the PO box it would be fine, and I've never had a problem like this before.

Funny how the pictures I sent to the seller did not make it up onto this thread where the letter included in the ripped open box explains that the knife was stolen before it ever arrived in Washington (leading some people here to assume I'm a thief).

Glad you are all such wonderful people and don't jump to conclusions.

Pictures will be up shortly with the box open along one glue seam. I for one do not believe you got the knife. Also, you got your refund within ten minutes of my reading your email. No need to be upset.

When I said the letter from USPS looked "Legit" earlier, that meant I WASNT calling you a theif, and that you DIDNT recieve the knife.

Tauuat, I don't see anyone calling you a thief, just discussing the possibilities. There are hundreds of transactions here every month and its pretty rare that a knife goes missing though it does happen occasionally.

This situation is worth discussing to maybe help people avoid it happening to them, or show how to behave if it does.

I do feel you should be up front about the fact that you may not get around to checking your mail for over a month when making a purchase here. Its important information for the seller to have.

Thank you, I felt the same way.

I apologize for being aggressive, but when I enter a 40 something post thread with most of the comments talking about how "shady" I am, its agitating. Especially since the whole story was not being told.

I do take responsibility for not checking the PO box sooner, but it was just in my normal schedule to check it monthly, so it didn't seem out of the ordinary for me. For that I apologize, the mistake was mine for not mentioning it.

I will let y'all know when I hear something about the claim. I did speak with a girl at the mail box facility this afternoon, but the owner was not in, and she just kept telling me to talk to USPS. She did say that they have the USPS delivery people sign something when a package arrives opened, but who knows how strict they are about that. Headed to the beach with my wife for a long weekend. As far as I go in this; I am sure most anyone I have delt with here will speak to my integrity.

I just want to point out, I have been talking with Damian about this since before the thread and I wasn't at all blaming you, I believe most likely the knife was taken from your box at the mail box place after USPS delivered it there.

I did specifically say the word "shady" but not in reference to you, I believe you (even without hearing your side of the story) honestly didn't do anything wrong and found the opened box in your PO box. Again I am fairly certain, from personal experience, the box made it to the PO box location just fine but that it somehow opened there and that its 45 days of sitting in your box is when the "shady" activity a may have took place.

I say this because had it came open in the possession of USPS it would have been sealed with USPS tape and labeled as such.

When I was working, I shipped a lot of boxes by UPS and USPS. These were very expensive items. What always amazed me was how many people were cheap about tape.
I saw fairly heavy boxes sealed with one skinny piece of Scotch tape.

I buy the heaviest packing tape I can find and use a lot of it. The glue on those priority boxes is pretty good stuff until it isn't. I have received several of the small flat rate
boxes that had opened. The glue failed. Now I seal every seam and flap with at least one layer of tape. Sometimes 2 or 3 layers. When I'm done, the box will not open even
if it was run over by a steam roller. What does it cost? 25¢ tops. What is the knife you are shipping worth?

One thing that I learned from our UPS driver is to seal all the flaps with tape. He told me that the guys in the distribution centers will stick their fingers under the flaps if
they can. That's why boxes show up torn.

UPDATE: USPS paid up and I got the check today. Full value. Thank you all for your imput, and that will surely be the last time I ship anything without copious amounts of tape and security. One time was just one time too many.

A specific thanks to Dave for your offer to pull purchase records, but this was one of the very few kershaws that I didnt buy from you. Go figure.

Anyhow, this matter is resolved.
