Hey everyone, I was just wondering what your opinions on fake knives were. I love the look of the small sebenza 21, but I can't afford one. I was wondering if the Chinese clones stacked up to be any good. And before you guys ask, I just want one of these to edc. I love everything about the sebenza, but they're so expensive that I can't justify the price.

Just a quick update (this one's for you marcineck lol) my parents, or at least my dad, seem to be okay with my interest in knives. My dad has even begun carrying a delica, and admits that folders are extremely useful and that they prejudged them. He told me that because I've worked to save up a little money, I can buy a nicer knife. I have a paramilitary 2 coming in, and was looking to use the leftover money (about $70) to buy a good quality sebenza clone. It isn't for bragging rights or anything, I can acknowledge it's a fake, I just think that they are beautiful, and a lot like many people who buy fake Rolexes, I like them, but not enough to go for the real deal. Thanks for your help : )

Clones suck. Supporting counterfeiters sucks even worse because it pays for them to become better at cheating people out of money.
If you literally only have $70 to spend then get some nice sharpening equipment or a reasonably priced decent knife that isn't a fake.
My suggestion would be to put the $70 in your piggy bank, and keep adding to it until you can afford a real Sebenza.

Before I supported someone in China who profits from stealing someone else's design, I would be good with the pm2 for now and save up for the real deal. That would make it a way more special knife and would show your parents that you are responsible enough with your money. Perhaps that would translate into being responsible enough to carry a knife. You can get a used small 21 for $250 - $285 on the exchange.

Then buy a Chinese knife that is not a clone. Simple.

Go to ebay or aliexpress and look up Sanrenmu, Ganzo and Enlan knives. Chinese brands, very inexpensive, good quality (varies), uses a couple of design elements from well known knives, but definitely not clones.

I recall some of them were posted on here by users who have bought them and were very satisfied with them.

Virtually all of them use 8Cr13MoV steel which is supposedly comparable to AUS8 steel.

"I have a paramilitary 2 coming in..."

Since you have this...I wouldn't be in a rush to get anything else.
I've had multiples of both models, and they're both great. But, use your PM2 for a while and save up for another knife...IF you think you want/need another right away.
I have not tried any "Chinese" models yet, but there are quite a few folks here who tout some brands... These models, however, are going to run you a bit over one hundred dollars, so don't rush it.

I'm mostly in it for the looks. If it isn't as smooth, or if the quality of the steel isn't as good as a real Chris Reeve one, that won't really bother me too much. I have the pm2 as a workhorse, I just want a decent clone because I like the aesthetics of the sebenza. And I don't see how buying a fake is really stealing from Chris Reeve, getting a fake and liking it may even further motivate me getting a real one.

Well if you've made up your mind then why did you start this thread?

I haven't really made up my mind, I'm still on the fence about it. The problem is, honestly, if I wanted to, I've made enough money to buy a real sebenza. My parents just think it is a little ridiculous to spend 350 dollars on a knife. My dad suggested getting a fake one, as he has had good experiences with fake watches in the past. I understand that they are ripping off Chris Reeve's design, but the one I am looking at does not have any markings or logos on it that belong to CRK, and in the description right at the top it says that it is not a real CRK sebenza. I was more interested in if it would be a good quality knife, not so much about the politics of getting a clone.

And when I said I had $70 left, I meant in my budget. I had a budget of $200 and bought a pm2 off of a reliable dealer on amazon.

There are a lot of fairly decent chinese clones out there. You will get what you pay for generally. The more expensive the clone, typically you're getting better quality components.

Every time you buy a fake chinese knock off you are supporting one of these jackwagon companies that think it is OK to do this stuff. By supporting one of these companies you are in turn hurting the company who got ripped off. Your purchase tells these companies and sellers it is OK and it tells the original maker that their design and efforts are not worthy of your hard earned money and their time. I don't care if the knife is identical in every way. Same Heat Treat, same steel and same fit and finish. I don't care if it is all of these things and selling for $5. It was made by a company for the soul intent of taking a design that should be protected, and it is wrong! Even if you are buying one to prove that it is an inferior design, it is wrong. The only way I see owning a chinese knockoff and it being morally right, is if you stole it from the scumbag who was selling it and then beat it to death with a hammer! This of course is just my opinion!

Thanks for the answer man. I might just hold out a little, maybe try and find a real used one at a good price. Neither I nor my parents can justify $350 for a knife, no matter how great it it. What is the cheapest price you think I could find a used sebenza at?

Oh criiminy, not these toxic elitists again.

Is it elitism to look down on people who think it's a good idea to buy a product made by thieves who are stealing someone else's work? If so, then yes, I'm an elitist. The fact is that you most likely won't ever own a Sebenza, and think a counterfeit product is just as good. Guess what? They're crap. You're really young, so I can understand that you aren't old or mature enough to take advice, but the fact is, you get what you pay for. That's why excellent knives cost money, and cheap POS clones made of Chinesium rendered in designs stolen from actual artists exist, and can be had for cheap.

You want to send money to thieves, be my guest. You seem like you got it all figured out, kid. Good luck with that. Wonder if your parents will give your PM2 to your Uncle also. With that Tenacious? Make it a package deal. I'm sure he'll love it.

Dude! You're at $200 right now. You can get a used small 21 for $50 more.
