The first time I met Holger was at one of our 'Every Other Tuesday' meetings. He brought a small holdall bag and produced wonderful knife after wonderful knife from pouches, boxes, and knife rolls. On the way home I calculated he had brought $10,000 of knives for me to look at and play with.
I also met Enger at the Canadian Knifemakers Guild show in Mississauga in 2007. I was surprised he remembered me, but he did and remembered me by name.
The final time I met him was when he came to the restaurant where I work with a friend for lunch. Of course he brought knives for me to look at including a Bud Weston knife I was going to buy (for the price he bought it), but never got around to getting the deal sorted. I also remember the most wonderful pretty miniature Japanese style knife with a gold dragon on the side of it. He was always very free to share the fruits of his passion of collecting knives.
Holger was a very clever man, a true gentleman and someone I will miss very much. 61 is far too young for anyone to go.
RIP Holger.
