R.J. Martin Knives

Small family of Martins... the Oddysey and Vanguard Subhilt are loaned out and not available for a pic. I think I left the Blitz in my apartment.

So this is about 2/3 of them... and these pictured are all USERS, by gawd! Carried and used... WHOO-rah.

Top to Bottom:

  • Older M2 Fighter (keep this one next to my bed at night, along with a Kimber .45acp)
  • Older Q36 liner lock
  • Havoc
  • Older Q30 liner lock
  • Trek
  • Older 420V/S90V neck knife

Should have a Q36 overkill interframe w/ damascus and (maybe) a meteorite inlay later this year. I'm working on getting the materials...

Congrats on your Havoc!

I have 4 great knives from RJ... and all are crazy stoopid sharp!:thumbup: ...Unfortunately, I've only photo'd 2 at this time.

My other 2 are a Havoc (:)), and a Contender, which pretty much reminds me of a Havoc in a folder version.

The next time I send you a picture, I will try to be neater in my handwriting-the "4F" in the picture was intended to read "C/F" for carbon fiber. It is nice unidirectional material, 0/90 degree layup that shows contour lines nicely when machined. It would be my pick (and Thomas', not surprisingly) for scale material. You can NEVER go wriong with nice C/F.

Anyway, glad you like the knife. It has Brown Canvas micarta scales on it, BTW, which are also popular. When you send it back to me for the new scales, I will tune it up and get rid of the slight side-to-side play you mentioned. I don't tolerate play!

BTW, Once I change out the pivot to the new "D" head, you can change scales on your own, at will.

To everyone else who replied to this thread-THANKS! I had a tough week last week-Crashed the spindle on my CNC after two years of crash free operation. Newton was right-Bad things happen when two objects try to occupy the same space at the same time! Anyway, after spending 3 days trying to salvage the old spindle, I decided I just wouldn't be happy with a less-than-perfect machine. So, I drove to Maine Thursday with a large check in-hand and picked up a brand new one. Installed it Friday, ran-it in Friday evening and got the machine all buttoned up and ready for action. So tomorrow I am back in business. YAHOO!

All I need to do now is replace the $500 toolholder I ruined when the machine crashed and put the mangled toolholder up in a prominent place with a sign that says "Don't do THIS again!".

So, what I am saying is, it's nice to hear good things and support from all of you. Setbacks happen occasionally, but turning them into positives is a big part of being successful. Knowing I have satisfied customers is the biggest reward.

I agree with the CF.

Glad to see you posting, and know that there are some knife-heads out here that really appreciate the progressiveness that you bring to the knife market. I can only imagine what you had to spend on a new spindle (multi grand...gulp), but your use of CNC machinery is a piece of what allows you to push the envelope with various blade grinds and precision "other stuff", and if imitation is the sincerest sort of flattery, there is plenty of flattery out there now (e.g. certain Canadians whose name rhymes with "Tie").

Keep up the good work, and expect to have to machine a piece of meteorite for a Q36 interframe overkill soon. Hope this works out well... that meteorite is expensive stuff... more later.

Thanks for the post RJ, it's great to see makers participate! CF or silver twill, it's down to that! The havoc will probably get dropped in the mail Friday so I've got a couple days...

Who is this Mr.LaBella?

Go RJ, Go!

And Rob Angerer, holler at ME if you want to move the older fighter ;) It would fit in Mr.LaBella's collection nicely :D

The DRT is pure perfection. There's a very nice review on it from the user oromoto on youtube. I could only dream of owning it.

Mr. Clean, congrats on your first RJ. The Havoc was my first RJ Martin as well and it got me wanting more in my collection. RJ's work is impeccable. Everything about his knives are top shelf. I've since sold off my Havoc, but added some others to the family.

Variable in Stag, JD Q-36, Gen. 1 Q-36, Bricklayer Overkill.

I almost pulled the trigger on that Variable, but I went for the Terzuola instead. Big mistake in my opinion.

I have a couple of RJ's folders. They are great.

Your mistake was definitely my gain Miguel. While I never would wish misfortune on anyone, I certainly am glad that you made this mistake. :D Once I saw it without an SPF next to the price I knew I had to have it.

Quick question concerning the Kershaw Groove. Is it a production version of the Havoc? I want to say it is but at the same time I don't.

ibute21: Yes, the HAVOC design is the basis for the Kershaw GROOVE.

Wow, I wasn't expecting an answer from THE RJ Martin! Thank you for clearing that up, I've been looking at getting a Havoc for quite some time now but you have just made up my mind. Once I have enough money saved (poor college student here), I'm going to purchase one! Thanks again, RJ.

Just got the Havoc back in silver twill. RJ did an perfect job and the fit, finish, action on everything is 100%. There are zero faults in this. Beautiful knife, I love it. Pics to come!

I picked up a Kershaw Chill as an add-on to another order because I loved the lines. It is one of Mr. Martin's designs. I love it. I have to get the real deal now. Superb design.
