Radius Grinder Platens

nathan,
did you notice any extra heat created by friction on this thing?
it seems like the back of the belt would rub harder on this as compared to a flat platen.

nathan

I still havent gotten a paypal request from you.

Hello Michael,

I haven't sent any paypal requests yet. I've actually been up in the mountains all day, far away from any computer, on an outing with my family.

I have quite a number of emails to sort through. But the beauty of my process here is that this thread is a visible list of who ordered what, and I had all of the work finished before starting the thread, so there is little chance of me forgetting someone or something falling through a crack. I'll compile a spread sheet tomorrow and start sending out papal requests by Monday and begin the process of shipping platens by the middle of next week.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I'd like to point out that Hankins got his early because I had a partial shipment back from HT, and I was returning some parts to him that I machined for him, so I went ahead and included his in his return packaging. I don't want folks to get the misimpression that they might have somehow "missed the bus". I only got the last of the platens back from HT late week, so for the most part, I have not started shipping yet.

Yes, I think that Butch noticed some extra heat on his. I had already hollow ground that test blade I did, so it only took a few minutes to regrind it, stopping to change belts every minute or so. So it never got too hot to touch, even at 5000SFM. But I wasn't grinding very long.

But certainly, I'm sure these will generate more heat than a flat platen. I only had it touching about half the platen, and I didn't go nuts with the belt tension.

Being hard steel, I'm hopeful they'll get shiny and smooth as they break in. I wouldn't be surprised if they ran a little cooler after smoothing out a bit. But I think they'll always run hotter than a wheel or regular platen.

I would also like a 48" if you have any left.

Thank you!

Kent

I'm afraid there aren't any left. These are all sold out. I did not expect to sell them all so quickly. I'm sorry.

It looks like I need to make a few more. I have to fit that in, but right now I have other work on the machines. When I make more made I'll bump the interest thread in ShopTalk and start another thread just like this one in the sale forum and processes it the same way.

I can not accept orders or payment for parts not made.

Thanks,
Nathan

thanks for the info, nathan.
it looks like you've really found a hit with these things.
congrats!

Update:

Most of these went out today, so most of you should see yours soon. Depending on the shipping time to your area, many of you should have yours by the weekend.
