Back... Back from the DEAD!!!

The only personal anecdotes seem to be stories of tang breakage. . . :D

Caption contest: I think I just hurt myself!

The problem with sawteeth on a combat knife is that once you plunge the knife into an opponent's body, you cannot get it back out, because the sawteeth act like arrow barbs and tangle with flesh, sinew, and bone. It is often hard to get a smooth blade out, due to suction.

At the time of the Falklands War there was a story about an SAS commando who had exactly that problem when he took a Sly II into battle with him. He stabbed an opponent with the Sly II, which promptly got stuck, and then had to dispatch his understandably upset adversary by other means.
another dumbass noob...you re-resurected a five year old thread...corkie..

Actually, it's almost 5 years old, but was resurrected once before, about 3 years ago. Not to be picky or anything though. :D

Was actually referring to it being brought back up the first time, not the original thread.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but it's been resurrected before so...

It's just interesting to note the anachronism of the pretended "SAS" anecdote above: The first sawback knives Jimmy Lile ever made were the First Blood knives for the movie "First Blood", which came out in October of 1982. The movie was filmed in late 1981.

The Falkan Wars went on from April of 1982 to June of that year: While the Sawback First Blood knives already existed, I doubt there were many for sale during this period.

Now note the "Sly II" that is claimed to be the knife that was used: That model did not exist prior to the Movie's release, and the Falkland War was long over by then...

The "blade suction" issue also has been debunked numerous times...

A double necrothread. Responding to a post made almost 9 years ago by a poster who hasn't logged in for almost 4 years, and in a thread that is 13 years old.

Help me out here I am new at this, should a new thread been started instead of resurrecting this one or just upset trollers?

Actually, the book came out in 1976 and there are 60's era survival knives with saw backs, so it is perfectly feasible that there were lots of sawbck knives being used in the falklands or any other war in 1982. And yes there were many for sale in the late 70's and early 80's. I was a kid and my dad got me one at a gun show in 1980-81. As for blade suction, I don't know, but I would agree with you that it is nonsense.

While we're at it: Wranglerstar's videos are dangerous, Emerson knives are overpriced, nothing beats S30V, and whats the best bushcraft knife? (insert other funny opinion-facts bouncing around) :D

These Rules apply site wide so I believe that means they apply here? http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/announcement.php?f=746&a=98

"4. THREAD NECROMANCY IS HIGHLY DISCOURAGED. Do not bump threads that are older than 120 days. Send the seller a message instead via their profile page."

Also with just some common sense, one should realize responding to a thread with no activity for 9 years and to a member who hasn't logged on in 4 years is a bit silly.

Somebody will always leap at the opportunity to point out to another that a thread is old, irrespective of whether the age of the thread has any bearing whatsoever on the actual content. Alternatively, somebody will always leap at the opportunity to tell another to "use the search function" or to reference one of "many threads which already exist". There is no winning on the internet; just do what makes sense to you and try not to have a Rambo reaction.
