Viewed another way, though...Those video gamers could hit a pretty severe midlife crisis. For me it would feel like Steve McQueen in Papillon, "I accuse you of a wasted life"!! Who knows, maybe they'll be happy with it. Imagine where I'd be if people would have paid to see me play Galaga.
The reason they can make money off it is because they're providing entertainment for people willing to pay for it. How does that differ from athletes being paid millions to run around with balls of various sizes, or actors paid to pretend?
Is providing entertainment a waste? I think the answer is pretty subjective.
