Random Thought Thread

Sorry for the lack of communication today folks. I'm dealing with the great apoopcalypse of '22.

Sadie had a bad time last night....

Wishing Sadie the best. I'm really hoping that it's not health related.

ETA: upon re-reading with spectacles on, I now correctly read "apoopcalypse" instead of what I had thought to be apocalypse!

Quantum entanglement! Two particles that can be separated by any distance that behave as if they're touching and, perhaps in some dimension possibly are? A military application for this phenomenon is, supposedly, being developed by the Chinese to observe stealth aircraft. Put an entangled particle in the atmosphere somewhere and observe its pair and you'll know if something's moving through that environment. Quantum radar!
IIRC, one of the proposed possibilities with quantum entanglement, was/is communications.

Orson Scott Card (wrote 'Ender's Game) posited that use for instantaneous interstellar comms (as opposed to current comms still taking minutes to arrive, from transmissions as close as our own moon).

That was one of my favorite books when I was a kid growing up. I've given it to so many kids since then. Who are universally unimpressed by it. Kids these days...

The US as well as other countries is investing in what is broadly referred to as quantum information science QIS, facets of which include computation, sensing, and communication. The current thinking on exploiting entanglement for communication is that transport of information is still limited to the speed of light. Hopefully lots of interesting things will happen in this area in the next decade...

I heard of that propulsion type somewhere but I don't remember the name he called it. If I remember right it was a scientist in Mexico that came up with it, but I may be wrong. If they are using something like that, it doesn't affect the space and objects that are around it's vicinity.
You’re talking about and Alcubiere (sp?) Drive. Theoretically possible, but requires the power of a small star to use. Recently a physicist has developed an improved design that is now … possible? Takes significantly less energy with the new design. Would love to be around for them next couple hundred years to see where it goes!

Looks like Toronto is hellbent to make sure Florida beats TB tonight. They took two TB goals off the board. Still haven't seen any evidence for the first decision. Looks to be totally made up. What a joke.
