Random Thought Thread

More random observations:

The motivation to not skip workouts = good

Not skipping leg day or taking it easy even a tiny bit, then doing a bunch of garden crap later the same day... = not so good. Legs definitely not happy. 😝
I started a new program and it’s got me doing some new lifts including good mornings. I walked funny for a couple days after that.

I had a similar experience this week.

Asplundh was here doing tree work on our property for Duke Power. I ended up doing a lot of cleanup after they left...getting the ditches cleared etc etc.
Then I spent the afternoon spreading the chips that I had them shoot on to the property.

Next morning I dreaded my workout, especially deadlifts...but I got through it...if not happily.

(Earned my beer.)

If I did it the other way around, I'd assess my condition and decide how much to push.

In my case, I pushed like I normally do and added another 10lbs to my squat today. It's the, "need to get this done before sundown", garden crap that had my legs going, "Dude...WTF? How about the take it easy the rest of the day, like normal?"

Okay, now you forced my hand...so I'm playing the old age card. I'm not gonna let you best me, sonny!

🤣

(Seriously...glad you're feeling well enough to get that training in. It makes a difference...especially as the years start to pile on.)

Yep, I was always wary of good mornings. A few guys like them, but I've never been convinced of the payoff. Crappy risk: reward ratio.
I used to do 'em some, but quit before they gave me any more issues than mild scoliosis has.

I'm thinking now that I'm paying for several decades of weighted dips, though. (I used to do dips and chins wherever and whenever I had the opportunity. Now my rotator cuffs bark a lot more than I care to admit.)

My rotators were both pretty bad a couple of years ago and I wasn't too optimistic about them. A lot of hanging and pull down/chin varieties, and rows etc have greatly improved them. They are now less prominent than other pains.

I do some timed hangs before every workout. They help along with a few kettlebell moves, (slingshots and halos), to open the shoulders. Also some band work specifically targeting the rotators.

I think its just time and genetics. Seems like most of the men on my father's side who were all pretty athletic end up with shoulder surgery at some point. (I don't plan on anyone cutting on me, however.)

I first injured my right shoulder during a minor incident on a glacier in the Wind River Range in 1974. I had years after that when it would pop out on me during hanging traverses, throwing a football, paddling a canoe. Thankfully, that all stopped years ago with more weight training...but now the piper wants to be paid. I guess I can't really complain too much. I've done most of the things I've wanted to do over the years.

Ugh. Reinjured my shoulder a few years ago (right around the time KoD came out IIRC). Been slowly trying to rehab it back.

It's gotten a lot better, but I'm still working on it, and I still get that occasional 'zing' when I move it a certain way/reach up for something.

Just got this ShouldeRok thingy, and am curious to see if it helps the rehab.

You're lucky. Mine only bothers me during the day and then when I go to sleep.

LOL.

It actually doesn't stop me from doing the stuff I need to do...it just reminds me that it's there all day long like a jailhouse guard with an attitude.

Curious how you like it.

My shoulders are pretty jacked up, particularly the right. Dumbbell benching helped more than anything else I’ve tried, but I’ve been thinking of a Shoulderok too.

I find that doing a set of kettlebell presses after dumbbell presses makes my shoulders feel pretty good. (I follow with sandbag arc presses as a finisher.) Something about the pathway of the kettlebell press helps alleviate some of the issues. I haven't done presses with anything but PowerBlocks and kettlebells for some time now. My straight bars just gather dust.

What Airgun are you looking at? That budget is huge and you can get a heirloom springer and pimp it out close to 1k, so I guess you’re going pcp and getting an air pump
Yeah, thinking about an FX Impact M3 in either .22 or .25 cal. I have been away from airguns for some time. I have a couple nice vintage springers, a Theoben Eliminator in .22 and an FWB 300s in .177. I also have a Career 707 in .22 which is a pretty interesting lever action PCP from the 90's. They are all cool and I have had a lot of fun with them, but the modern PCP is leaps and bounds ahead of them, especially when it comes to shooting in volume.

Ooo... nice.

Been looking at those for a while, but never pulled the trigger (I went bang for the buck with the .22 Air Venturi Avenger). IIRC, the M3 in .30 is actually in .22LR FPE range.

Yeah Max, they are bad MF’ers. That Avenger is sweet too. It is mind blowing what they are capable of now, especially if you set them up for heavy slugs.
