Random Thought Thread

I shot the mama racoon of a family that was raiding my garbage with about 4 stunner darts out of a big bore blowgun. ...
Everyone who lives in the suburbs should get one of these blowguns though, it took me forever to figure out a way to shoot varmints in my yard without getting arrested (or detected).

I know a guy who rigged an air line to a blow gun and used the little, "Miniature Carrots" - you know the pre-packaged stubby carrots from the produce section? Those carrots.

100 PSI behind a carrot really motivates them to get moving with one shot! Anything other than a head shot only hurts, but not much else. A head shot is "lights out", so I'm told. He also had some squirrels nesting in the eave of his roof, so he tried it on them, too. I'm told they did not tolerate the carrot to the arse nearly as well as a 'coon.

Just wrote a post about how I’m too picky sometimes.

Come down to my man cave and open a box I have waiting for me from Shirogorov.

Worst Shiro I have ever laid my hands on. Definitely shouldn’t have left the shop.

If any of you guys think I QQ about little things that don’t matter, like a tiny bit of corossion under the handle on a sub $300 knife, you should see the ripper email this $1100 disappointment has spawned that I’m writing my guy there right now.

Food for thought: that sub $300 knife would most likely be over $600 in the land of the Ruskis and that $1100 folder is likely a couple of hundred $ less in her own homeland.

I've never handled a Shiro in person, but if I ever bought one, at that price, if there was anything less than perfect on it I would be incensed. My tolerance for imperfection rapidly shrinks as prices rise over $100. By $500 that tolerance is pretty much non-existent. At $1000 it would be well and truly gone.

Nah, they wouldn't overpay for a CPK like we would lol. I love me some FK, but a standard one is not a $600 knife.

And yes, direct from Russia, it would be very close to $200 less. Except I need to pay my proxy to ship it here, which eats into that, and then no warranty.... so the small premium is worth it.

I'm with you. Ironic. The last one I picked up just before this was $895, so cheaper and damn near perfect. Like, super happy with it, 95% as good as my $2000 CD in the same model.

Then I get this one, it's like it was on a bench to be tuned, and it somehow got shipped.

I understand the price hikes in the speculative secondary market and actually I was shocked when I started seeing the standard FKs (not to be mistaken with Standard's FKs :P) fetching around 5 x Bill$ just very recently, but if Nathan/Jo were the type* who'd be willing to grease the palms of a few Russian YouTubers / IG'ers (aka influencers) I'd be willing to bet you that fetching 2 x the MSRP prices in their wild would not be out of the question!

* they're not and I'm not even insinuating that they would or should!

Another wild life story.

A very long time ago I went to Vandenberg AFB with another guy to remove one of our duplicators. When repacking the machine we remove the developer and fuser oil. The developer is tiny steel shot and the fuse oil is silicon oil. I took the stuff out side and dumped them into a dumpster. The developer was in a plastic bag and the oil was in plastic jugs. Somehow, a bunch of raccoons opened the oil bottle and ripped the plastic bag. When we left, there were black, oily raccoon prints all over the cars parked near the building.

When I lived in Goleta, PRK, I saw a lot of possums, but they were mostly flat.

So I was Christmas Shopping for my wife yesterday, and asked myself "What do you buy the woman who has everything" I decided "Nothing" and bought this for me:eek: New Ruger 10/22 Takedown with Magpul Hardware:thumbsup: Fantastic little 22 LR

^Tom, have you had the opportunity to compare it to the AR-7?
No Bob, I haven't Shot a Henry in years, sorry! The 25 round mags did however perform (Feed) without any malfunctions (Shot 75 rounds thru it yesterday)! The New Magpul hardware is a big improvement over the Standard Stock However:thumbsup: Has Fiber optic sights and came with 4 standard 10 round Magazines! Also the stock opens on the back to transport, carry the 4 magazines (Will see if I can get a shot of it later) Only thing missing would be a transport Back back to pack it in (The original takedown came with a bag) Overall a great little 22:p
