This may not be much of a help, but I try to think of such losses as the price of owning and perhaps trying out a knife that I otherwise might not ever have the chance to see, hold, or use. Sometimes you get the tail of the tiger, other times you get the claws.I sold a knife today, an unused custom knife from a well-known maker, and I lost well over 50 bucks on it (not counting what Uncle Sam will squeeze out of me later). Shipping, PP fees, and my small markdown - it all adds up quick.
I hate selling knives, I should have pulled the listing.
I'm all chapped about it now.
(My random rant of the day.)

…I tally the losses up under “Bladeshow cost avoidance/offset.” Unless I go to Bladeshow lol. This may not be much of a help, but I try to think of such losses as the price of owning and perhaps trying out a knife that I otherwise might not ever have the chance to see, hold, or use. I feel your painPàdruig . Haven’t listed any in a long time and finally moved a few this past week. It’s easy to eat $100 on a mint custom.
On the bright side, there’s less in the drawer and more $ back in play. For a minute or 2!?![]()

You’re so cute. Nathan, not every knife says “Carothers” on the side, and therefore, some don’t hold their value, much less appreciate, quite the same as knives out of Mooresville, NC.Why on earth would you sell a knife for less than you bought it for? Is it all torn up? Did you beat the hell out of it?
Excellent. Please show off here what you get from him. I would love to see it....
The good news is: I am shoring up my PayPal balance for future CPKs as well as some custom slipjoints that are in the works. By the way, Rick Menefee will be getting back to me after he gets back from his Africa trip - he will get me on his books.
Because I want it ……Better question; why would you ever buy more than 3 knives? Or 100??
