Yeah. All you got to do is set up and diagonalize a matrix. Easy peasy

Uh huh.

The only reason I was even able to pass statistics was because my TI-81 would do matrix and the professor said it was fine to use a calculator. *Shrug*
It just depends how deeply you want to understand what is going on. As far as simulating the spectrum of a small molecule, you could be up and running in an hour or two...

Hahaha
On a canyoning trip in Utah (sometime in the 90s), somewhere in the boonies near Kanab(?), we saw a diner with a neon sign (I guess they wanted to save money with fewer letters?) that said 'Ho-made pies'.

We were tempted to go in and ask which hos made the pies, then realized that there's a LOT of desert around there, where our bodies would never be found, and decided it would be a bad move.
😅

Just passed a dump truck from a local excavating company.
Nice and big on the back of it there was a laughing skull and the words “I run hoes for a living.”

I've come across more than one whose name was pronounced "Fuh-Molly"

(Spelled "female". I guess the hospital named them.)
Wow. So much for that being nothing more than an 'urban legend'.

Reminds me of a joke I read in Reader's Digest decades ago (parents had a subscription).

A woman is in labor in the hospital and winds up giving birth to twins. A healthy girl and boy. As she's laying in bed, she asks, "Is my husband here? Did he put down the names of the children?". The nurse says, "I haven't seen your husband, but his brother is here and he put the names down".

Knowing that her brother in-law was a notorious practical joker, she went, "Oh no. What did he name them?". The nurse replies, "The girl's name is Deniece", to which the woman replies, "Oh, I like that. And what about the boy?". The nurse says, "He named the boy, Denephew".

About five years ago after a wonderful and relaxing, week long backpacking trip I returned to work. I stopped by Home Depot, and almost as to remind me I was back in Ohio (once “the heart of it all”), I pulled into a space and the pick up truck in front of me had so many mysoginistic stickers across the back of it that I had to back up and take a picture.
I have the picture. It’s not family friendly and I don’t know how to do that spoiler thing to pictures or, if even that would be appropriate.
I can’t imagine the owner ever got a second date.

ETA: I just went back and zoomed in on the picture. It wasn’t misogynistic just really crude. I’m not even saying it’s not amusing. Only that it’s distasteful across the back of the truck.
It’s even possible I posted the pic on here years ago when I saw it.

A couple other classic names from the past...

"Her Majesty Moonbeam" McMillan.

(Given that her father was "Prince of Life" McMillan...well...the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.)

Real names, real people. (Ol' Prince of Life was a real handful.)

People are strange. I've known some women who didn't like guys to treat them well, or with too much respect. I don't know the specifics of the pathology of that character trait, as it's not something I was comfortable being around, but I know for sure it's a thing.

In college, I had a date "bitch me out" because I opened a door for her. She told me that she was more than capable of doing it herself. Beautiful girl, but...

Yeah...I've seen a lot of that in the wake of the whole lib movement going back decades. What I'm referring to is women who want to be treated poorly, and subjected to being essentially used as objects. It's weird. (For lack of something more appropriate to describe it as.)

Another funny name related story

There's a dealership in my area named Charlie's

Well letters on the sign went out in the funniest way ... I past it one night and the Char burnt out
.. so this dealership had huge letters lit up on the the front of their building that just said "lie's"

I have a pic but can't seem to find it on my phone... was pretty hilarious

I would hate to date in today's climate. I am all about affording respect, I think everyone should, but there are way too many rules these days - especially when something I see as good manners is deemed as offensive by another. My usual approach is to be kind and don't be a dick but it's almost as if folks today expect and encourage the opposite of people.
