I can't tell y'all how much I share these sentiments.

I'm not a wealthy guy. My ownership of really great knives comes with some sacrifice on my part. (*as with many of you, I imagine) If I find something I really want, I usually have to forego or sacrifice something else. Because of that, Nathan sharing the extra effort that he and his Crew go to, to make an amazing/robust tool, is awe-inspiring to say the least.

I've never hiked in the Andes, scaled "El Capitan", or had my helicopter downed in the Amazon. I have however had my hands buried in a 2' mudhole, nursing a water well or irrigation issue while the temps were dropping like a rock, and have wondered how fast I was gonna' be able to get a fire going to warm my body. For me, it was always those times that made me truly appreciate a few reliable, trustworthy, and damn-near-unbreakable tools.

Your mileage may vary.
Well your words of reliable tools rang true today for me. We have had crazy weather lately with rain last week over the snow. This morning was 5 degrees and I was going down a very hard ice trail and swerved my snowmachine to avoid a low hanging branch. Much to my dismay, the berm I hoped was snow was solid ice causing me to overturn and send me into another ice berm with my right shoulder- dislocating it. Laying on the ice in pain and remembering why it is unwise to ride alone (which I do 95%), I thought well hell- How am I going to get my utility snowmachine upright with one arm. Thankfully my trusty come-along with 150’ rope was accessible and I was able to connect to a tree and my bumper at an angle yo pull it upright. No place to easily turn around so I slowly rode (elbow at side) to my cabin where I was happy to have premade feathersticks and pine shavings along with dry wood next to the wood stove. I am very right handed, so it was a humbling day but could have been much worse. I know a come-along isn’t cool, but I would not have been able to use my portable electric Warn winch with the sled positioned like that. Trust your tools!

Hope you heal up quickly. As we get older, the body doesn't bounce back quite as fast.

I also meant to wish you quick healing, when you posted B beeinak , but got pulled-away from my computer. As a guy who rode motorcycles most of my life, I've known injuries. Make sure you take whatever you were told to take for pain. It's easier to try to stay in front of it than trying to play catch-up. (*Riding snowmobiles, I'm sure you already know that)

B bluemax_1 is correct. Every year of life seems to add weeks to the healing process.

Why am I even in the Exchange sections? In the last couple of months, I've spent my budget for at least the next six to nine. I swear, it's a damned mental illness.

On a separate note, being a bit ignorant about how the whole "Carothers" system works, is there a pretty good chance that Nathan and Jo will ever produce the Behemother again? I'd love to have one, but $1500 (*on the pre-owned market) is wayyy out of my league for a blade.

I’m like 5-6k deep so far this year.

The BC is a personal favorite of Nathan, it makes him giggle. I would be surprised if he did not make it again at some point.
UPDATE: did some calculations, and I’m close to 8k deep… this year…
Piiffff…..amateur…….

Feel better brother. First time I dislocated my right shoulder was during a climb on Lizard Head Peak in the Wind Rivers of WY. Training with weights eventually resolved the issue, (for the most part), but not until several years later.

During the years when I was still susceptible, it happened at inopportune times such as:
while doing a hand traverse with no footholds on a face climb in the Shawangunks, canoeing in the Delaware Water Gap, throwing a football during a game. Those are just the ones that come immediately to mind. (I learned to pop it back in on my own very quickly as a result.)

I feel for you. Heal up soon.

Thank y’all for the well wishes. Swimming helped with recovery after both rotator cuff tears, but I am hoping that some time and being careful for a bit will help. I can raise my hand to head height this morning and reaching forward I need to have my elbow tucked so putting on gear for temps 6-8 degrees this morning, riding out and loading should be fun🤬 At least the Northern Lights were out last night. šŸ˜€

Ah yes, the infamous elbow tuck. And don't forget how much fun it is in the shower when you forget for a moment and try to reach a spot you can't get with your left.

(My rotators like to remind me that they're not going anywhere when I do my lifts downstairs twice a week.)

Good luck.
