Random Thought Thread

I work outside all year round in all weather moving freight and cargo trains. Even on days I work a double shift, I’m outside 90%+ of my shift. I use Skinfix hand repair cream as it’s designed and clinically proven to treat dry, cracked hands and eczema. That and the baby/toddler is why I’m not outside much right now. When I spend 50-60 hours a week in pissing rain or snow all week, on my day off I just want to be warm, dry and off my feet.

But the context of Lorien’s handle inspiration underscores the sub-forum and comments like “two in the hands and one in the mouth” or topics like moisturizer take on a specific meaning.

hahahahaha I’m just gonna stop now.

So you know exactly what I'm talking about when your hands get dry and cracked. That Skinfix is some great stuff isn't it? lol

Titan Trackmobile, leased w/ Equipco on-call maintenance. Blew the old engine up when the private park went from 10 cars a week to 110 cars a day. Supposed to be allowed to go in during lightning events, but if the tennant cries for their railwork order, then the tennant gets their cars.

I was going to send a link to Mark. You should see his hands this time of year, the tips of his fingers look like they have miniature lady Parts on them.

now there's an image I'll naught be able to scrub from my cerebrum. I look forward to shaking his hand one of these days (?)

Ahhhh I see. Well at one site we have a small fleet of the venerable Nordic Shuttlewagon. I never use that shit box. I don’t drive, I’m on the ground. Not interested in sitting in a seat all day.

But where I work most of the time we use a standard yard Loci with a slug.

On occasion I work at a yard where we use a pair of giant modified Cat front end loaders with the bucket removed, a weight replacing it and a knuckle on the back. That shit gets crazy, bumpin’ cars all over the place in a way a loci can’t.

Oh yeah, it stings a lot less than many other products and works fast. Love it!!

I have the green puck kickin’ around here too.

Buncha Nancies I say, using hand moisturizer! Back when I walked 5 miles uphill both ways to the milk shack 100ft from our house I always told the Udder Balm it was only for cow boobs, it'd better not affect my own skin!
I like the utter butter. It keeps my boobs soft this time of year. Wait, I didn’t realize it’s for your hands

random thought: I dreamed last night that I was still in high school. I graduated high school in 1993. At that time, the first moon landing, in 1969, had been 24 years in the past and seemed like ancient history. Like seriously ancient history. I learned about it in school. 1993 was 25 years ago but it doesn't feel like it was a long time.

My neighbor has a 16 year old who drives around. When 911 happened they hadn't quite been born yet and learned about it in their social studies class at school.

also a random thought: a few days ago I picked up a book I hadn't read in 50 years entitled "My Brother Was an Only Child", happening to have remembered a quote from the book, "I dreamed I was the Statue of Liberty in my Maidenform Bra, or ..Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses"......

Perhaps a bit sexist from a book written probably 65 years ago, but with a title and a line I will never forget, something that springs to mind at this very random time.

Nathan, time as we have come to believe of it does not really exist other than signifying a change or changes from a certain point of reference. For people like children and younger preadolescents that perceived shift and change from one point to another takes longer to conceptualize than it does for the adults. This explains as to why childhood memories do not "seem like it was yesterday" as we often refer to when we're adults.

In other words, your conscious and self-awareness takes "time" to fully develop!

Whatever you have to tell yourself to accept you are getting older, Grandpa!

Not there quite yet! I made my parents grandparents when they were really young, admittedly both younger than I currently am! What I did to them, is no longer cool in my own books ;)

P.S. here's another Unc. Matty Monday morning tidbit for you grasshopper:

Getting older is no problem and an honor to embrace but getting old and feeling old on the other hand, ...

Tell me about it. Limping around here with this broke down foot. Physio every week. Thankfully I didn’t end up in a wheel chair at any point.
