Random Thought Thread

You raise good points. If we can get our own sub over there, would that recreate it?
I have a PM in to Spark requesting it, (and I brought Boru13 and Rycen in for support). It certainly couldn't hurt if you also requested it, Nathan...I think the case is strong. (Haven't heard back as yet, except from Boru13.)

I don't think, however, that the software will be able to parse the differing membership requirements necessary for having "sell", "want", and "trade" together in one bucket.

Blues Blues Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist just a random thought regarding the new CPK sale thread, my apology if I am stepping out of my line here.
What do you think about creating a sub forum in the 'For Sale by Individuals' spesific just for CPK knives and CPK related items?
I saw there sub-forums reserved for brands like Busse, Buck, Chris Reeve, perhaps we could also have one?
That way we could have a 'private' exchange reserved for CPK where only Gold members allowed to create a sale thread and nobody will need to post link in separate thread.
For WTT or WTB perhaps we could have a sticky thread on top where members can post just as in the old thread, interested seller will then create a sale thread to continue the deal.
Just a rambling random thought

ETA: it seems Nathan and blues have addressed this while I was typing 😅

It would be better... However I think the problem with it's own sub forum (I think that's what you mean) is there's not that much volume going on. About 1 post per day on average, and that might go down if it's outside of the action on this forum.

I would suggest to try adding "Gold Members Only" to the Headline of the current Buy and Sell. Currently this rule is a bit hard to find for new people, they have start on page one, read your rules, then click the little "here" link and read the rest of the rules. ....Most people including myself are lazy and don't actually read the rules. When the most important rule is loud and clear, you'll cut down on most infractions, and more non moderators will also start stepping up and policing. If that step is taking and it's still a problem, then take more drastic action.

....This is assuming there's no way to set a post as gold members only can post, because that is the easiest fix.

It won't work. After 25 years herding cats here, folks, as you say, will continue to refuse to read the guidelines, and member "reports" have been inconsistent...it's hard enough to keep the chatter down in the thread. (And that request came from Nathan...for reasons to do with subscribed members.)

That means that the only way to do it within the sub-forum is by combing through the posts individually since the software cannot filter the memberships within the thread (as it exists currently).

All of that said, if Nathan can work out some sort of side deal or special dispensation with Spark...that's a different matter altogether.

The Ron finckberg jr singularity occurred yesterday and the B/S/T thread imploded 🥲
(I am joking Ron, your post was just at an inopportune time)
I think I addressed that I hadn't even seen that post, and it didn't enter into the equation.

(Stated simply for the record...otherwise, I think your post is ☺️ )

That's a long time working with cats! You're most likely right... my line of thinking is more like, " what's the lowest amount of effort that might solve the problem". because if requires close to no effort, its might be worth testing, and sometimes you get surprised the results. With that said, having a CPK buy and sell forum, might have surprising results as well. Now we get see, so that's cool!

Spark Spark has come through with the CPK's For Sale section.

Thanks Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist , Spark Spark , Blues Blues and whoever else was involved.

Please understand that I am not in any way being a smart ass or questioning your comment. I simply don’t understand how a compression lock knife with no flipper to push a blade partially out is able to have the tip poke out enough to get stuck unless it is too loose. I have carried a PM for 2 decades and never had an issue. I stopped carrying flippers tip up after having one open up when I was squatting down to grab something and the crease in jeans pushed on the flipper.

Again, I am not questioning you- simply trying to see how it could happen with a properly working knife that does not have a protruding lever or release button.

My best guess is that material from my pants pushed into the lock tab as I was sitting/standing/walking/running/moving and the blade released enough that the tip was exposed (it doesn't take much). Then when I stick my hand in my pocket, the tip nails me. It has happened numerous times in different pants/shorts with different comp lock knives (Para 3 LW and Cru-carta PM2). The knives were in perfect working order. Plenty of other people on the Spyderco forum have reported similar incidents with comp locks.

Updated the "catchall" thread in the sticky section with direct links to "CPK's for Sale" as well as "Knives Wanted" and "Knives for Trade" to make it easier to jump back and forth from this sub-forum directly to the relevant areas within the Exchange.

I hope that helps.
