I wonder what percentage of CPK that have been produced are still in new condition. I’m definitely not suggesting anything about them being kept this way. If you own it you are entitled to do, or not do whatever you want with it. 33% of mine are kept this way. I’m just curious.
Datapoint: at the moment, mine are 75% used. After the logistics fairy visits later on today, that will drop to 60%, rising to 80% approximately 30 seconds later.
I’d put money down that it’s less than 50% on average. Kinda sad really. And we’ll never truly know.

Mine are mostly used. Only 1 FK2 (because I have several) and my DEF haven’t seen use. Technically my very recently acquired SDFK hasn’t seen use, but I GUARANTEE it will. So 9 or 10 out of 11 or 12 in my “collection”. 🤷‍♂️ So ~75-83% here.

I'd like the idea of being able to buy a CPK "user" on the Knife Exchange so that I could keep a "mothership" sourced knife pattern in like new/unused condition, but the
rise in CPK valuations now evident have made this is not really feasible anymore.

The high secondary market valuations have also had the affect of keeping more of my CPK's in "like new" condition while I just continue to use my few already existing CPK "users."

Current users or light users: EDC1/EDC2, LC, BC.

100% of my CPKs will be used. They're too good to sit around in a drawer. I never buy anything with the intent of resale. I'm buying it to use it.

I have a neighbor across the street that owns a mint, all original 60's GTO (I forget the exact year) with less than 60,000 miles. Every month or so he goes out and starts it up and it sounds amazing. He won't drive it because he says it's worth too much money. He doesn't even take it out of the garage. To each their own, but if it were me, I'd drive it and enjoy it. Life is too short.

I feel much the same way about my CPKs. They make me happiest when I'm using them. I'm new around here and my knives don't have near the mileage some of yours do, but I can tell you when I'm using my SDFK to split wood or process game I'm enjoying that fine tool. When I'm using my fk2 for trimming down an axe handle, creating feather sticks, or to cut rope and wire, I'm smiling.
I don't think there's anything wrong with collecting if that's your thing. No judgment from me.
I just think that a CPK is too damn good not to use it.

80% users for me the one mint will be trade fodder for something I want in the future.

I don't purchase knives with the intent of either flipping them for a quick profit or with the specific idea of trying to gain some kind of long term collector appreciation.

I tend to buy whatever I like (as long as it is priced within reason and I've got the discretionary income available to do so).

However, once you get beyond acquiring a dozen or so knives and you already have multiple users available for rotation and perhaps even knives designated for a specific usage, then it doesn't make much sense for every additional new knife to also become a user?

CPK has a lot of pattern variants... 3 EDC, 3 FK, 3 HFK, 2UF, 2 DEF, 3 DEK, 2 Shivs, 5 Choppers, Kephart, Skinner, Kitchen Knife, Comp Cutter, and 2 Short Swords.

I don't own all the CPK pattern variations but I have a fair bunch out of the ones listed above. Take the choppers for example... I already have a LC and a BC user... So do I really need to do the same with the MC, HDMC and the Behemother?

I enjoy putting my CPK's to work and I'll likely have even more that will become users, but some will remain in minty/like new condition.

I'm thinking (again) about buying a dog for some company but instead of a BIG dog (which has been my preference; I've owned 2 Dobermans in the past), I'm thinking of buying a small dog instead & a Yorkie is currently at the top of my list because I like it's "Ewok" looks.

Why a small dog?

It takes up less space. They eat less & leave smaller poops. No need to walk it. Can just let it wander around my small back yard. It can be trained to pee & poop on paper in the kitchen. Just wrap it up, toss it in the trash & lay more paper down. You can take it w/you anywhere in a small hand held carrier.

And, they're chick bait -- women LOVE them and always want to cuddle & hold them when they see them. I'm between GFs again & want an alternative method of finding another GF w/o resorting to the dating sites again.

Any opposing opinions or better ideas?

This guy had a very similar idea! Do it.
