Consider looking into customizable latex foam mattresses (3 to 4 layers of latex foam with differents firmnesses), when mattress shopping.

The online retailers that offer these will provide recommendations for the initial order based on your height, weight and preferred sleeping position and preferred firmness, with the option for different configurations for each side for 2 people of different sizes/needs. You can then exchange layers to fine tune the feel during their trial period (i.e. if you find it's not providing enough support, or is too firm etc.).

A lot of top longterm care facilities use latex foam mattresses because they provide support with practically unmatched pressure distribution (important for mitigating hotspots that result in bedsores, or worse - blood clots).

I personally don't like memory foam because it 'takes a set'/winds up forming a depression. It's quite a different feel to latex foam.

We spend ~1/3rd of our lives on our mattress, and that 1/3rd affects the other 2/3rds.

My personal 'journey' winding up with my current latex foam bed was over a few decades. Aunt moved to Switzerland when I was younger, and left her King sized bed and mattress with my parents. Parents already had their bed, so I 'inherited' that bed and mattress. It was the most comfortable bed I'd ever slept in. Supportive, yet soft, like sleeping on a supportive cloud.

When we wound up moving, I walked into my room in the new house and went, "WTF is THIS? WHERE'S MY BED!!!?". Mom said the old bed and mattress was too heavy, and a PITA for the movers, so they told them to just take it away and got me a new bed and (coilspring) mattress. It was like the difference between sleeping in a real bed, and sleeping on a pile of cinderblocks. ☹️

It took decades to figure out what that old mattress was (and along the way, I went to a Tempurpedic retailer and tried the entire line, all the way up to their plushest ~$4,500 mattress). Nope, whatever that old mattress was, it definitely wasn't memory foam.

One day, I suddenly remembered the brand on the tag (hey, my aunt didn't rip the mattress tag off 😂). Dunlopillo. Websearched it and finally learned about latex mattresses. Ordered one. That first night when I lay down in it, finally, after decades, "Ahhhhhh.... THIS is the feeling I remember".

Getting a good night's sleep makes a HUGE difference in how I feel for the rest of the day. The cost of a good mattress (and pillow) is one of my most worthwhile investments to quality of life (especially for latex mattresses that can last a couple decades or more).

"Oh, and here's that Shiv you've been looking for..."

No prob paying for the good stuff (Obviously 😁). What brand do you like?
I'll have to look it up when I get home, I honestly can't remember it right now. Wasn't one of the big ones you'd find in a Google search now, but they were one of the big names back around 20 years ago. Seems to be a smaller operation now when I ordered more stuff a year or two ago.

Also could check out those Purple pillows. Me and the wife have one each. Best pillow I’ve ever bought, and I can make a pillow go flat in 30 days. It’s still just as it was new. There expensive but the best pillow I’ve ever bought. And can’t beat the warranty, I think it’s 1 or 3 years.
