I totally agree brother. The FK2 was my 1st CPK, compliments of the generous and prominent @woodysone . I would only ever gift it to one of my 5 kids.

I’m quite curious about the “hard and thin” version of the FK2, though. Even further, there’s other versions w/ a penetrator tip or a swedge. Very, very intriguing!
Why didn't anyone tell me my ignoramus was showing?!?

I knew there was a swedge and penetrator tip. I had no idea there was a hard & thin version. What are the differences from the standard fk2?

Why dont they sell thin pillows? Things are always too darn fluffy.
Wish they would stay that way. After a few weeks they all seem to turn into pancakes. Have actually been using a My Pillow for a few years. It flattens out too over a few hours, but I just flip it over front to back and it's good to go again.

It's called the "Bad Idea".

Says Nathan: "The standard version is already relatively hard and thin so the harder thinner version is probably a bad idea, but if you want to special order a bad idea we have a few available for this sale."

The "hard thin" was a variation of the field knife that was run a little bit harder and a little bit thinner. despite being harder it does not have better edge retention, it just has a slightly different edge wear mechanism.

It is higher hardness not due to a lower tempering temperature but because it was austenitized in a manner to put more carbon into solution forming a plate martensite rather than a mix of plate and lath. This supports a thinner geometry.

It's a good knife for people who plan to use it as a skinning knife or other applications that won't see as much impact as the standard field knife will tolerate.

It is a relatively minor tweak, it is not a night and day difference, the two knives are very similar it's just a tweak for the special knife nuts that wanted it. Years ago the original OG field knife was heat treated this way.
