Is this the right place for a rant? Because I need to rant for a minute.

I have a special loathing for hit-and-run drivers. This morning I was on my way to work, fixing to exit from one highway and take a ramp to head south on an intersecting freeway. Without warning the white sprinter van in front of me slammed on his breaks and veered hard to the left, swiping the left rear corner of the little white suv in front of him (he clearly wasn't paying attention, got too close and panicked). I jumped on my breaks to try to slow down in what little space I have left to avoid hitting wounded car that is now in front of me. Just as I come to a stop a Jeep slams into the rear of my car - that driver didn't have enough time or space to avoid it. In a span of 3 seconds or less, the white van's inattention directly caused severe damage to 3 other cars. Then he just took off and didn't bother stopping to check with anyone. Thankfully nobody was injured.

The owner of the first car that was hit is a nurse who works in long-term care for chronic and terminal patients. She works a thankless job and probably doesn't get paid near what she deserves for the pleasure. Then this prick smashed her car and drove off, almost guaranteeing that she'll have to cover repairs out of pocket or eat higher insurance premiums for a couple years. Shameless.

I'd like to think the van belongs to some company and a sensible manager will file a police report when he sees the crunched bumper, but I won't hold my breath.

This is the third hit-and-run incident myself or my family has dealt with in the last few years. Is anyone else having to deal with such cowards on the roads, or is it just me? I'm 31, am I to young to start asking "whatever happened to common decency?" Or was it always like this?

Sorry for the wall of text. Rant over.

Most importantly, I'm glad you and others involved are okay ....

And hit and run accidents are not okay, especially since the driver of the van could've hurt some one....

I don’t think this is true. I think it’s more likely there have always been a bunch of selfish assholes.
While it's true that there have always been selfish assholes, it just seems that in general, there are far fewer people who make the effort to be polite, considerate and thoughtful.

I'd plaster these posters everywhere, if I could 🤣🤣🤣

*** That these things are uncommon nowadays, is what makes this subforum such a treasure. I'm not sure what it is about CPK, Nate, Jo and the rest of the CPK family that draws the people, but I came for the knives, and stayed for the community (and more knives 😅).

Time to get a dash cam. They're cheap and easy to install. They may not capture everything, but they can be invaluable when you need it.

Let's play
GUESS WHAT I JUST MEASURED

Guys, I'm panicking about the post office. I have $12,000 in irreplaceable pistols in the mail. A custom that was sent priority express last Wednesday with scheduled delivery Friday that hasn't been seen or scanned since Wednesday night, and a WW2 Colt that the sending FFL sent to the wrong address. (Though in fairness to him, there were two addresses on the receiving FFL's certificate... but on the other hand, one was clearly labeled the store premises.)

Oh crap I hope it'll get figured out

The wrong address may be able to be “intercepted” if the sender creates an account online with USPS. I just went through that with a knife. They only gave me the option to return it to my address on pick it up at a Post Office, but not send it to a new corrected address. Good luck.

I am very sorry to hear this and I genuinely hope that it all works out for you. I don't wish to add to your angst and anxiety but I can only share a similar personal experience on an expensive item from many moons ago (I believe about 15-16 years ago!).

I sold a Rolex President and a matching bracelet for almost 10K back then and had the package processed through a UPS (I know that your case is USPS) store. Many UPS stores are franchises unlike USPS so there are potentially more risks involved as opposed to going directly to a UPS owned depot and initiating shipment from there. Risks like an employee deciding to steal a high value item and then bail! The paperwork back when indicated the contents and the insured value, whatever. This package then went into a proverbial blackhole and did not appear for almost 7 days making me shyte bricks in the meantime. Ultimately it just showed up at the buyer's sorting hub back East (shipped from CA) and during that time, I was getting passed around like a football between the drop off and the UPS main. I believe to this date that the package went to some special inspection facility to check for stolen merchandise which no one ever confirmed to me being the case.

Since in your first scenario we are talking about a high value gun (double whammy) it is possible that it got flagged somewhere and once the power that be are satisfied there are no malfeasances, it will show up again on the radar. I am just very surprised that the seller/sender did not use FedEx / UPS (despite the story above!) for better chain of custody track record or even adding Certified / Registered when using USPS. Yes, this slows things down a bit because the chain of custody within USPS will need to account for the merchandise handling but highly recommended when things tend to go to the "blackhole" locations!

The second scenario can simply be the FFL addressing issue. All the best with your situation and any one who has come across similar knows only too well how anguishing these are. My hunch is that you will have positive outcome to both but it's very tough going in the meantime!

I heard Jo Matt singing this a bit earlier when he thought no one was around to hear...

Mr. Elliot, apparently Jo is a very good singer but that's beside the point. Thinking about it, Nathan needs all the luv and encouragement to keep us knuckleheads happy like swines rolling in shyte! How the Eff is he even making it with his business's accelerated purchasing (machines, material, etc), materials burn rate, machine shop expansions and specialized human resources hire(s) based on Fridays' sales every 2-3 weeks plus biannual preorders? OK, the preorders are no $louches but still, he does drive sh*tty Ford trucks because he sacrifices it all for Abbey, Harrison, Sadie and most importantly for us! Yes, I will sing for him eventhough I often literally sound like the pig who equals on its way to the slaughter.
