Can't beat the system.

I think I see the problem. It is virtually impossible for me and probably others to get into the Friday sales. To speed things up, I connected my computer directly to the cable modem. My download speed is now over 100 mbps and my upload speed is 3.2 mbps. Within one second of seeing Nates post show up I entered my post. Total time less than 3 seconds. I was already on page 2. My best guess is that delays through the various servers in causing the problem. I am not a computer expert, but I can see no way to post any faster.

I think at around 9.5 inches, the tip of the blade is supposed to begin to move faster than the eye can see when you backcut. It'll still cut ya! Maybe I can help you find a way to post faster that you're not seeing, send me a PM.

I think this sale had more immediate 'i'll take it' replies than any I've seen so far. I can't compete either until enough sell for the pressure to go off a little. I sure like trying though. I'll end up with a D3V model of these someday, or maybe better yet, the medium chopper :)

The pressure is only gonna increase when CPK competition choppers hit da streetz

I wasn't watching the second hand on the clock, but based on what I have seen on other Friday sales, it takes 5 to 7 seconds for Nate's post to show up on my computer. The last EDC2 sale took 7 seconds past 1:00 MST to show up. I didn't know if Nate was just late or there was a 7 second delay. Based on what I saw today, I suspect a delay. I'll use my stop watch on the next sale.

Keyboard shortcuts can get you under one second from in the post to a reply, but being on the west coast that was still not fast enough to get me in recent sales. East coasters close to the server always won. I gave up and settled on pre-orders.

When the servers were on the west coast, I often placed first.

My refresh is usually spot on, but the weather sucks here today in the Northeast. Interest is still high please make more, more, more....

With so many people hitting refresh all at the same time it is essentially a small "denial of service" attack on the forum which delays the upload randomly

I'm sorry that was the last of these, I'm retiring the pattern.

I'm just kidding... There are a 100 more in process and we have a batch of hundreds more after we do the little sprint run of Competition Cutters.

:D

I remember when Busse did this sort of thing. People complain that their F5 key would wear out.

BTW, my refresh rate was pretty fast. I would guess about 1 second. Maybe a tad more, but less than 2 seconds. I still think that page 1 was already full before I even saw the sale show up.

I'm not complaining. (much) I am just trying to understand what's going on. I too will wait for the pre-order. No big deal.

Fun with numbers!!!

I've participated in (11) CPK Sales, and scored on (7) of them. My average Success Rate is 63.6%.

I've found that using my 4G phone as a wi-fi hotspot on my laptop gives me the best chance of scoring a spot. Suck it Comcast!!! :D
  • I turn off all unnecessary apps on both my phone and laptop (no Hangouts, no Skype, no DropBox, no email, nothing that is sucking bandwidth or running in the background).
  • I have my reply 'Copied' and ready to paste
  • I use the 'F5' and 'End' keys to quickly get in the thread, and jump right to the bottom. Click in the box, CTRL+V to paste my reply, then refresh, refresh, refresh!!!
  • I've also gone as far as to disable all the "add-ons" in my BF profile: turn off signatures, use the standard editor (not Rich Text Editor), turn off the Status, etc. Anything that may slow the load times.

Yeah the east coast just has faster internet

That wifi hotspot trick is smart!

I have a pretty fast internet connection, (100 mbps) but from what I have seen, it doesn't make much difference if the data is fed to you slowly. For instance, sometimes Fox news loads almost instantaneously. Bang, it's there. Other times it may take a few seconds to load. I have seen it delayed as much as 10 seconds depending on the time of day.

Fox news loads up instantaneously because unbeknownst to you there are actually teeny weeny foxes the size of an atom foxing around in your 'puter making up foxy noises, er newses :D

I'm on the West coast near LA, in pouring rain at the moment, using wi-fi from my cable modem on an old Mac. And I seem to be number 2. I think Bladeforums server magic determines post order more than our computers or ISPs do.

A lot depends on the luck of the draw as to how fast you catch that refresh and hit the post button. If yours a few microseconds too late and gets mashed with the rest of the data being uploaded onto the BFC servers, you could end up much lower. Congrats on your success
