For those newbies and those who did not know, that DE-UF which St. Augustine now owns were Nathan's personal UF. I've forgotten if its Elmax or 3V but there were not many UFs in 3V and if this is both a 3V & also a DE, it's indeed a Unicorn!
The single edge UF is Fantastic, but the Double edge is just MAGNIFICIENTGus is the Double edge Cocobolo? Hard to tell
Maybe one of the ugliest things posted here. I made this knife 3 or 4 years ago for my brother in law. Before he was my ex brother in law and I wanted his skull as a drinking mug. He somehow got the weird vibe that I didn't care for him much anymore and gave the knife I made him to his oldest kid (my oldest nephew). It's pretty beat up and a bit dull now. 1084 steel, and my version of 'tooling' at the time was tracing over some patterns for gutters with a ballpoint.

Love that cocobolo DE-UF! Those scales are seriously dead ringers for the ones on my single edge UF. They look almost like clones, really gorgeous!
Membership in the DE-UF club is difficult to attain, LOL!
I have seen worse knives. Much worse.![]()
You do realize that Grog presented an upside down picture, right? LOL!
Agreed. My BC will fill this role. And I’m out of money! The CPK/Keffeler competition cutter project has been almost two years in development. We started by optimizing a HT for 4V (V4E) for choppers then developing a machining and grinding process for the bevel geometry. I had a few hundred pounds of V4E imported into the country for this project. We've sunk an enormous amount of time into getting the grip geometry just right. The design is a relatively faithful copy of some of Dan's best work and is based closely on knives with championships on them. For those of you who don't know Dr. Dan Keffeler, he is one of the most successful knife competitors and talented knife designers the industry has ever had for knives of this nature. My intention with this project was not only to make the best BSI production comp cutter in the industry, but to make one of the best comp knives period. I intend for this knife to run circles around almost everything in the race circuit. It will have what I feel is the best steel with the best HT and the best blade, edge and grip geometry possible. I've never sunk this much development time into a project before and I haven't done such a small batch since the D2 skinners 10 years ago, so this is an unusual project for us, but a Blade Sports project like this epitomizes our no-nonsense focus on performance.
Last weekend the prototype was put to the test and it performed very well. So we talked about it here yesterday and we've decided to move forward with this pattern with the intention of having some ready to compete in this year's BSI World Championship in Atlanta. This means I'm going to have to temporarily shelve the HDFK and MC projects for a few weeks and focus on comp knife production. This won't impact the BC or the EDC2 pre-orders (BC steel is still being made, EDC2 is running on a small mill), their schedules will be unaffected, but it does mean other output will be reduced for a little while.
I think we will do a pre-order for this knife. This breaks from our tradition of having only two pre-orders at a time (one starting while one is finishing) but it might be the best way to get these into the hands of BSI competitors, and with Atlanta only a few months out there won't be another time frame to do it.
The time frame for a pre-order isn't finalized yet but it may be this Friday after the HDFK sale.
Please keep in mind a race knife like this is going to be relatively expensive and being a first run small batch might be a little rough around the edges, so this pattern is not a general purpose knife in any way and would not be a practical knife for most of you to use for most things. I hate to dissuade you folks from buying my knives but this is a specialty piece and may not be the practical everyday use kind of work we normally strive to produce, but if you are planning to compete in a Blade Sports event I believe this will represent the best race ready production knife ever offered and one of the best race knives period.

Don't squash my dreams on the HDFKs!Maybe, maybe not.![]()
Don't squash my dreams on the HDFKs!
If I am not, that just frees up more pre-order money, either way you look at it, it's Top Ramen at my house for the next few weeks.
