Awesome, I have heard good things about the Wolfe Ridge splitters. Have you used a splitter like these before? The log lift is certainly a life saver and you will love it. Did you get a four way or some kind of multi split wedge with it? If so, is it fixed or hydralic?

Nice cut on that beam boss. What saw and chain are you running on that mill?
I have not used a splitter like that. I’ve just been using a standard big box type for the last 20 years so it’s going to be a step up. It is coming with a hydraulic adjustable four way and six way in addition to the single wedge. And I got the 16 foot conveyor. I’m running a 390xp with a 32 inch bar as my milling saw.

Copy, you will be amazed at what it can do. You'll be tempted to put a huge round on there to see what it will do, and it will split the hell out of it. The problem is you will then be wrestling two 200 lbs halves wit a mind of their own. Be careful. I try to noodle anything that will be awkward like that and really prefer stuff under twenty inches in diameter. The amount of time it takes to get the wood out of a thirty plus inch round is not where it is at when it comes to efficiency when you could be pushing 18" rounds through the six way once and make six pieces on each stroke. Also, if you have any question about the knots or twist in the wood, stick to the main knife. It isn't worth the hassle of a stuck round or worse, a damaged wedge, just to try and see if it can do it.

390XP is a nice unit, how far you getting in the cut on a tank? Any post work done on that saw?

Thanks for the input. The 390xp is stock. I can get through a 16 foot cut of Doug fir 12 inches wide on a full tank but it uses it all. I’m running a regular chain, not a ripping chain so the end result is not as smooth but for my purposes it is good. I’ve used it to make desks, tables, a tv stand, several outbuildings and animal shelters. It’s good for beams but anything much smaller than a 6x6 or slabs or live edge stuff and it’s not really worth the effort. It really slows down when you get into some wide hardwood. It takes a couple of tanks of fuel to get through a wide, 8 foot oak slab. I’m figuring the 6x6’s I made cost me between 5-10$ to make which is pretty good compared to the 125$ each they cost at the lumber yard. It is time consuming though and they aren’t as smooth as the ones from the store and maybe a little “off” hear and there but honestly I like the “character”.

I met a guy at a wilderness skills course recently that casually mentioned "I get most of my meat from gators." I said wow, how many do you need? He replied "usually about 9 a year , I go down to FL and don't leave until it's done." It wasn't until I soon his hand later that I noticed he was missing 2/3 of his index finger.

Gators are sensitive about people from out of state pointing their fingers at them.

Damned tourists.

Had to lie down and get some water when they were doing the final stitch. Got faint and throw-upy feeling.
All good now.
Back home.
Took the day off.
