My hope is that a bunch of folks frustrated with the Friday sales went to blade and are now satisfied…..a fella can hope …right?

The early birds came in about an hour ago. The main show will open in an hour but I don't think we're going to have as much inventory as I had hoped.
I hope some people have been doing their stretches and are flexible, because it looks like anyone who didn't get the early bird pass is gonna be kicking themselves in the ass. 😅

So... the other curious question...approximately how many people did it take to mostly clear the table? 3? 🤣🤣🤣

I wonder what it was that gave him away?

- his exact likeness to dericdesmond?

- his name tag which states "Eric"

- his zombie-like transfixed gaze at those blades he was vying for all these past weeks?

- all of the above?
Add;
-Postal shirt, likely traveling straight off shift, not surprised to see a postal truck with out of state plates parked askew in the lot.... perhaps crumpled after hitting one of the Gonorrhea billboard stanchions

-Bags under eyes from mix of red eye travels, hangover and newly minted fatherhood

Dang! That's insane it sold so fast. I'll definitely be grabbing the early bird pass for next year.
For love of all that is good and holy, I gotta get an HDFK....and a chopper...and a bowie.....
I guarantee you that will not work.

This isn't checkers we're playing.

(At least) one of two things will happen.

(1) Nathan will decide to change the way he approaches Blade. Lots of ways that could happen. All I'm saying is that he won't just have a zillion knives sitting on the table waiting for all the early bird pass holder to sprint to that table and gobble them all up in the first few minutes.

(2) If (1) does not happen, then a zillion folks will buy sacrificial tables at Blade 2024 and will go inside on Friday when they open it for the exhibitors and will be all lined up at the CPK tablle already waiting for the early birds to be let in and to sprint - too late - to the CPK table to sadly go home empty handed. Again.

Chess. Not checkers.

Do you know how much a table is at blade show? I don't, so I don't know if that's probable or not. I wouldn't imagine it's cheap.

yoko yoko The Amazing Virginian The Amazing Virginian

While I think that "Mountain Time" may well be a part of the reason that Jokic gets overlooked to some degree, it doesn't excuse the volume of votes by which he came in second to Embiid in the voting for MVP...and frankly, though I am loathe to say it out loud, I believe that race is, unfortunately and lamentably, an issue.

That said, it made my heart glad to see the panel of Stephen A, Wilbon, and Jalen Rose all say last night that Jokic is the best player in the NBA / world.

There is still hope.

(I don't want to belabor the discussion of racism here, just as I wouldn't do with politics, I just think it's naive to ignore it and make believe it doesn't exist in this arena.)

Sadly, I agree that racism is part of it. I mean, basketball is a game where Hollywood actually made a movie (and a recent remake) titled "White Men Can't Jump." Think about that. The silver and bronze medals in the high jump at the last Olympics were won by White Men.

However that only goes so far After all, Jokic DID win MVP the past two years.

I was mostly talking about the general public, but when it comes to the Talking Heads that you mentioned there is something else at work that I think was the main reason Jokic didn't win MVP again this year. "Protection-Of-The History-Of-The-Game-Ism."

Remember how for decades baseball writers would never elect any player (no matter how worthy) to the Hall of Fame unanimously on the first ballot because - for some strange reason - Babe Ruth wasn't (until they finally did it for The Sandman - and he played on the coast too, and in NYC, and for the Yankees).

Well, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlin and Bill Russell are the only players to ever win the NBA MVP three years in a row. Michael Jordan didn't. Kobe didn't. Magic didn't. Kareem didn't. LeFraud didn't.

So how you gonna let this big, slow, European dude playing in Denver do it?

Wilt and Russell did it many decades ago when the league was much smaller and there were only a very few really great players to compete against for the award. They almost don't count. I believe that these Talking Heads don't think Bird should have done it, either. And as great as Bird was . . . IMO be probably benefitted from the racial thinking among the basketball media of his time in the same way that Jokic is penalized by the racial thinking among the basketball media of his time.

The best thing about Jokic is that I truly do not think he cares. Like all the greats he is about winning. But unlike all the other greats, he never expected to be where he is - at least until recently. He was an afterthought second round pick in a draft that only has two rounds. A true unicorn. A super team player. And for me, a pleasure to watch and root for.

The future:

I see a raffle being held to place pre-orders at the Blade Show.

Sigh.

Congrats CPK team. None of us are surprised, but we're all happy for your continued success (and growth).
Indeed!

I believe it was 2014 when I was there and Nathan had a small table. And no crew at all that I remember seeing. No race to his table. A LOT fewer knives, and special knives were there many hours after the show opened. I bought a double-edged fighter off his table at that show after I had already wandered around quite a bit.

He's come a long way through hard work, dedication, very high ethical standards, and the pursuit of excellence. I am thrilled for his success and it couldn't be more well deserved.
