We're running on generated Delta 3 phase here and this is what the wild leg looks like while a spindle is ramping up. Actually ramping down. I guess the amp must be injecting power back into the line? Kind of weird. I'm not sure that's supposed to look like that.

If it was ramping down, could be back emf
 
That's why my mind went to a bad variester because I figured the higher voltage would get shunted somewhere but these machines don't have resistor banks for that. Is it designed to try and inject it back into the line? How is this supposed to work?
