I got buzzed by one of those once, at a very low altitude, about 100 miles off the coast of San Diego. To say I was in awe would be an understatement.

I've only gotten buzzed by an A-10 at eye level while hiking up Mt. Monadnock in NH. Me, my brother-in-law and the pilot were all surprised at the same time as we crossed from the windward side of the summit ridge to the lee.

Yowza! At least he dipped his wings after nearly causing us to soil our pants.

I always liked it too. They would mark their territory on the tarmac. Leaking fuel all over the place. This was necessary in their design. They were so fast that the fuselage panels (which were the fuel tank) would expand from friction while flying. As the panels expanded they sealed together.

Our air wing was located at Homestead AFB. It was fun to fly on our own aircraft, but the Air Force toys were awesome to watch coming in and out, and the air shows were a blast. Got to hang out in the Officers Club with the Thunderbirds after a show back then.

Later part of my teenage years my parents moved out very close to the airport

We could sit in the driveway and watch planes from the air shows flying

A-10s have a distinct sound to them lol
