Random Thought Thread

Random thought: it feels weird going into Lowes and not buying some sort of pipe fitting.

Casual observation: it is insane how inexpensive consumer grade tools are.

Humorous anecdote: consumer grade grinding tools shrink at my shadow and shudder at the mere mention of my name...

I went into a True Value awhile back to buy some packing tape. ($2 a roll) While there I looked at the power tool section. A salesman asked if I needed help. I told him that I was looking for an angle grinder that wasn't made in China. He said, "Good luck with that." :D

Likely not found at True Value, but if you're adamant about getting one not made in China, then Metabo is the way to go. ALL of their products are still made in Germany to the best of my knowledge. Otherwise, there are plenty of Hilti products still made in Germany and believe it or not, Dewalt still manufactures some tools in the US. Certain angle grinder models being one of them.

I was just jerking his chain. ;) My 14V Milwaukee drill motor was made in Germany. Now they are Chinese.

Actually, some of the tools that are made in China are just fine, but it kind of hurts to see old brands like Milwaukee and Makita made there. Prices don't seem to reflect that they are now Chinese.

How'd they turn out Nathan? That's a lot of meat removed.

I'm excited about this one.

They're turning out well. It's slow going. The chips are very long and stringy and not clearing well so we can't really walk away from it or it re-cuts the fines. We'll finish beveling next week.

I never considered a knife for defense in civilian life ... with exception of threads brought up from time to time ...

well color me shocked ... I was mowing my parents yard and their elderly neighbors yard when I caught a white flash out of the corner of my eye ...

a pit cross at a run right at me sitting on my john deere mower ... I had just enough time to react and get my arm up ... which natural had teeth it it quickly ...

now I've trained martial arts since I was 11 ... I do not train heavily anymore just light workouts ... and even some of my learning was defending a dog attack ... but with a well placed kick or knee at a lunging dog ... never with a knife ...

well luckily I love my EDC2s and I carry one often and was today while working outdoors ... and perhaps even more luck that I am right handed and the dog came from my left ...

I would have never gotten to a pocket clipped knife I doubt but reflex training I guess I grabbed the EDC2 ... well surprisingly enough ... EDC2 1 ... dog bad choice ... and me ... damn damn lucky just a few puncture holes and a lucky placed EDC2 blade ...

I hate that it happened I love dogs and have no clue what brought it on or even where the dog came from ...

but God bless a fixed blade on my hip on the right day and things happening as they did or this may have been nasty ...

it may put a fixed blade on me more often after this and playing it back in my head over and over ... I think the CPK Gods must have been watching ...

my random day ... not sure thoughts other than I should have bouught a lottery ticket ...

btw did I mention I love my EDC2 and Grogs perfect sheath for me ...

Glad it wasn't worse and that you had way to defend yourself with training and a knife.

Glad you’re alright JJ. I suppose the old saying is right; a 3” knife on you is better than a 6” knife at home.

yes the police were called they checked with neighbors trying to find the owner no one claimed it ... there is only one house that's a rental but the man told them it wasn't his so no telling ...but yeah that was my first thought I'm glad it wasn't a child or one of my parents or older neighbors ...

I was lucky just a few stitches ... it was a young dog ... still hated to have to do that but no telling what set it off ...

no rabies so that's another lucky point ... I'm still kind of dumb founded by it ... I wouldn't have ever expected anything like that ...

Might have just been the sound of the lawnmower. I had a dog that would viciously attack the vacuum if we didn't lock him up. Glad you weren't hurt badly!
Sharp eye and a sharp knife!

I would definately agree with you Lorien ... always said felt that myself.

people think it's dangerous out in the forest. I think the urban jungle is more so
I'm glad you're ok

And thanks everyone I'm ok ... no real damage done the dog didn't shake my arm much ... I wonder if his owner just played rough and with a tug toy ... but I count myself lucky ...

Just made me think more even though I do conceal carry a handgun most days ... for working in my parents yard in this sleepy little Mayberry type town ... it was locked in the safe in my truck ...

was just pure luck I have been wearing the EDC2 so much since I got it.

I do at home but it's out in the boonies and I see a stray coyote or skunks and possums around to try to get an egg ... but it town I just locked it in my safe under my truck seat ...

luckily I didn't have a beer to have to waste!

I cut grass with Keffeler Sasquatch, Colt M4, and Law on my shoulder! (Just kidding) Got to be safe out there:thumbsup: Glad your alright:thumbsup:
Edit: If the dog did not have rabies it was probably starving, abandoned, or being trained to fight,

Helluva story JJ, glad you aren't too roughed up. How about some pics of that arm?

Also, I think a verified save with a CPK deserves a coffee cup, t-shirt or sumptin'........
