Took the kids to the miniature trains today. Had a blast. They had a couple diesel electric ones just like Burlington Northern runs nowadays, and a few old school steam powered ones. Had a great time.

I also had a random thought but I don’t think this is the place to share it. 🤣

^Wondered to myself before if this ever/often happens. Believe it may be a first confirmation for me.

Great thing about this place currently is that it operates somewhat like it used before the internet; and this is a parallel comedic tagline that I know I’ve heard someone else perform that I would credit if I could remember who, but all the same, it strikes me now that this is a question I’ve had to wait quite awhile to have answered.
Fun feeling.

My random thought for the day:
On top of weed-eaters, orbital hand-sanders
also make it difficult to eat with chopsticks.
That is all.
Good days sir’s and ma’am’s.

The “Random thought thread” Seems like just the place to share a random thought.

Most every year at some point a random got away/was let loose pet bird will show up in my yard. This guy is in great shape and has assimilated just fine back into the wild.

The are flocks of parrots in San Francisco that apparently got loose from an imported shipment years ago. They have assimilated as well. It’s crazy to walk by a tree in the middle of the city and see all of the tropical birds hanging out there.

We "camped" at an urban campground (repurposed asphalt parking lot) many years ago in San Diego that had lots of parrots in the wild. Also, the old Busch Gardens in the San Fernando Valley had a bunch of Parrots hanging around. Some speculate that they were escapees/releasees from Sea World and Busch Gardens, respectively.

Yeah I’m in the ol SFV and can attest to that.

Have any of those wild parrots learned to mimic weird sounds? Eg. Horn honks etc.

Could be bad if they learned to mimic the sight-impaired 'Safe to walk' sounds for crosswalks 😬

Grand uncle had a mynah in a cage near the bathroom. Looked like this one

Like parrots, these birds are also very good mimics.

Unfortunately, they usually end up mimicking whatever they hear the most frequently (yes, us naughty kids kept trying to teach it to cuss, when the adults weren't around 😅).

In this case, of all the things to mimic, the bird learned to accurately mimic the sound of grand uncle clearing his throat and spitting in the sink, which was the first thing he did every morning 🤣🤣🤣

My old girlfriend had a couple of African greys back when we were in college. One of them would always mimic her mother's conversations when the phone would ring.

But the best one was, before I was aware of the whole dynamic with the parrots...was when her cat walked to the door of the "Florida" room and the parrot yelled out "Do you want to go outside, Schroeder?"

My hair stood on end and I had goose bumps until I realized that it was just used to hearing her mother yell that out when the cat wanted to go out.

He was a mean little sucker too. He loved to nip your feet if you weren't paying attention.

Always enjoyed mynahs.

Chainsaw mimicry starts about 2:30 in if anyone is needing to skip ahead.

I just spent a SOLID hour weed whacking paths, foundations, and stone walls. My hand is going to be shaking all evening.
I went through over 300’ of .095 gatorline on my FS131 last trip to the cabin- it is hard on your hand for sure! I trim shrubbery that overhangs into my drive with one- works great on thinner alders and devils club-just hard to feather the throttle for long periods.
