A little cooler this morning so I took the opportunity to scythe the portion of our property that is not woods as it was starting to look somewhat unkempt.

Got it done within what I consider acceptable limits and was out long enough that the (few) neighbors (we have) who saw me out there with it will not be stopping by anytime soon for a friendly chat or to solicit donations. So there's that.

It is a good cardio workout...blends in well with the sandbag and kettlebell routines. And clearly justifies the beer. (For hydration purposes only, of course.)
Trim the grass/weeds with the scythe, then trim the brush/limbs with a K20? Won't be bothered by the neighbors EVER😄

If only. Alas, I am not one of the fortunate souls destined for such a remarkable blade.

On the other hand, I don't have to worry about dinging up the scythe. Which is kind of liberating.

Ben and I modified an old Kephart in Delta 3V into a scraper chisel tool. We used it to scrape some concrete up off the plywood floor in the grind shop where we poured some footers for the big grinder and then we used it yesterday to cut a sizable bolt off where the head had stripped on some cover on the back of the makino that needed some repair. It looks fine. It's not dinged up. It looks awesome.

By "ding" I meant blemish or render unsightly as opposed to destroy. No way I would think that I could damage one of yours easier than my Austrian scythe blade. Two different leagues entirely. (And obvious to you.)

(But I will hand it to them...it is SO much better than the kind of stuff that is commonly available and called a scythe hereabouts.)

Didn't you say that you had rigged up the K18 on a different handle for use in defoliating the compound and its hiding spots for yellowjackets?

You've mentioned your deployment of the K18 against vegetation in the past. Sounds like it does the job admirably. Of course, the scythe excels at working down at ground level.

Harrison and I cut a trail down through the woods to the creek with one. Where Jo and I are sitting on a bench right now, enjoying some beer and wine. He had a machete but it didn't work very well. That K18 just sailed through this stuff, it is such a joy to use.
