Very sorry to read this. Under the circumstances, you do not have many choices so any kind of aftermarket alternator and a roadside mechanic ought to be able to get you going. I also agree, that battery is finished so go ahead and add a battery to the plethora of what is needed to get you back on the road. Once you get back home safely, replace everything with OEM if you can. I don't trust non-OEM alternators on a heavy duty rig like yours.

How many miles on your truck? That could be the original alternator! I'd be floored if you had a ~ 26 YO alternator!

It's a motorcraft, I don't see a date code on it but it might actually be the original I don't know.

Kind of an unusual failure mode. Alternators go bad all the time but it's not usually the bearings. Not catastrophic and seizing like that.

What a mess

I am sorry y’all are having the aggravation and such, but glad y’all are safe. I had never heard of an alternator seizing up like that. I hope you are up and running soon.

When I visited Kentucky twice, the people were so nice I told my wife that if we ever leave AK, it would be high on my list of places to go.

^ Yup! I always recommend spending the ~ $185 annual for AAA premier membership for member + 1, which includes 4 free service calls per person irrespective of the vehicle (could be grandma's, no difference as long as the member is present), one free tow up to 200 miles (the rest 100 miles max). Of course no one would tow what Nathan is currently broken down with, but still I recommend AAA if you have older vehicles and you venture out on longer road trips. Caveat emptor, I'm quoting CA rates and arrangements. I don't know what they exactly offer and have available in your domicile!

It's why I have AAA RV+, despite not having an RV 😅

Jo, you kids have yourselves a very safe trip and travels the rest of the way. Talk Nate-the-Man into getting the darn CPK-Folder preorder going sooner than later. 2024 is only around the corner and he may need to score himself a brand new Diesel Truck ;)
