Did you get a SDFK?
If so, you shouldn’t be in any rush to get a HDFK. They are not the same, but they can handle the same tasks.

Beyond what I’m willing to pay but on the other end of the spectrum a nice DEK1 just sold for what I feel was a VERY reasonable price. Patience and timing seem to be good attributes. Wish I had more of both

Well, if you’re in the market for a larger heavy duty field knife by CPK I’d put up a WTB ad in the exchange for a SDFK. There’s a couple, or few, half decent folks here that would sell you one near cost. Maybe.

Both SDFK and HDFK qualify for SHTF status.

I think you’ll find the FK3 more than sufficient to handle anything you throw at it as a hiking/backpacking or camp knife - field knife.

I just looked at the preorder thread and it looks like around 70 preorders. I know there were a few Nathan sold at shows and other miscellaneous venues plus a couple one-offs in the forums (a weaponized one, a factory second one) so probably somewhere under a hundred. Obviously curious if anyone has a better ballpark.

That DEK1 in AEBL was actually offered to me yesterday but since I'm not a flipper and have a DEK1, I encouraged Coach to put it up for sale in the CPK sale area and told him it wouldn't last but a minute or two.

Seems I was right about that.

(The market is the market...but honestly, I find the predatory nature of the current marketplace off-putting. I suppose if I needed to raise funds I might feel differently, but I wonder how often that is the case. Speaking as a forum member, not as a mod.)

Random thought: there really is no good compelling reason for Carolina Reaper peppers to exist. It is a man-made atrocity that serves no reasonable purpose. Not made because we should. But because we could.
