Random Thought Thread

When I got in the preorder for the DEK1 and DEK3 over a year ago. I was after the perfect EDC blade from CPK. I ordered both in MC. After a long wait and much anticipation. I had both in my hands. What also happened was Nathan saying he would likely never make the DEK3 again. Compound that with the fact that the failure rate was high for MC DEK 3. Making the DEK3 MC a very sought after blade that many people regret not getting in on the preorder. I now had a knife that could reach boot dagger status pretty easily. This is not something that I would want to edc. I don’t like safe queens. I like users. So I took a guess at the fair market value for the rare MC DEK3. The knife immediately sold. So maybe the fair price is higher? Who knows. I am very happy with my DEK1 and the short time I got to spend with the DEK3.
I am not a flipper. Never have been. But I did find luck on this preorder and resale.

I hear ya, @JACKMANDU

I recently saw a traditional knife snapped up in a certain pattern by a certain maker for $2500. I happen to own the first knife that maker ever built in that pattern, and it was built at my request.

Don't think that I didn't have to fight the impulse to list my even rarer specimen and strike while the iron was hot. I didn't, but that's neither here nor there.

For me personally, I struggle between the option to take what the market will give...and my sense of community both as a member and a very long time moderator.

I hope you don't take offense for my having used the sale as an example, as I have absolutely no ill will toward you and respect your right to do what you want with your property. The market is the market.

It's safe to say I'm deep down the rabbit hole when it comes to CPKs. When there's a pattern I'm actively hunting after, it's very blatant. Is it hard to justify spending $800 on a single EDC sized knife, or $1500 on a large chopper? Both yes and no for different reasons. Ultimately for me, it's the experience and satisfaction I get from using and owning any high-ticket knife. So the ones I do purchase I think the price is fair in my eyes. I could just as easily be called crazy by anyone outside looking in.

But there is just something about whipping out a high-end knife and eating a steak that sends me over the edge to purchase again and again🤣
I feel compelled to weigh in here, though my opinion likely doesn't weigh much to most. I was notified about that knife, unfortunately, too late. I would have bought it, without much reservation, at the asking price. Congrats Doc. Congrats to you as well Jack on getting what you wanted for it. Next time, just contact me first, avoid all this hub bub. Blues holds the position I think many here hold, the struggle to do what they think is fair and just versus what is possible when it comes to selling these things. Additionally, as he says, it is ultimately the seller's option to do as they see fit with their property.

I am not the authority or even an expert on these things, but I expect the DEK3 to rank as one of the most valuable CPK patterns ever in terms of resale prices. I think in two years, we will be remembering this sale at $800 as the good old days. The price then will be four digits, and the first number probably won't be a one. Five, ten years out? Hell who knows?

Nathan makes great tools, that are exceptional to use, if you choose to do so. Nathan also makes a product that is a good investment piece as well, if that is what you are into. You can be into one of those scenarios or both, and either position is okay, however, to deny that either one is true, is denying reality.

That lil shyte always manages to embed a not so subtle WTB in his posts. I give him his props for gall and if for nothing Marc is quite tenacious and very persuasive. I often eschew these pricing topics on purpose because frankly speaking, it's no one's dang business. As you have said, "the market is the market" and in other words, it is what it is. The only mild turn off for me is when people feel compelled to go at length explaining how, why and what they are offering their property up for sale. I understand the so-called street cred wherewithals by trying to be a good denizen but no one should feel like walking on eggshells posting up their WTS. Nathan is one of the coolest guys around in here but I must now pull this legendary quote from the phenom, the myth and the centaur himself:

I’m never buying anything from you ever again.

I don’t understand why you cant just continue to hemorrhage money, keeping your family destitute, constant poverty so your forumites can enjoy knives. Selfish bastard.

I can't answer without first knowing...

Do you have any lacerations?

...and...

Are you bleeding? View attachment 2324452
My soul is bleeding. The game is tied and we are supposed to be crushing them!

But like clinton1 clinton1 said, this is already one of the most entertaining games in a long time for this rivalry. Constant fighting, tons of penalties, passion all over the field. Haven't seen stuff like this since I was in school back in the early 2000s.

A little "random thought" on "Liquid Stitch"...'

Sometimes, I can't tell if I'd rather weather the burn of putting "Super Glue" on a cut, to stop the bleeding...or just stab/slash myself another 10 times to forget about the initial cut.

Honestly, for me, it's about "Six in one, a half-dozen in the other".
