Random Thought Thread

Had to go get some stitches last night. We were making dinner and wifey apparently objected to something I was doing and let me know it 😁 And of course I had just sharpened all the kitchen knives on Sunday.

Same thing happened to me 4 days ago but I can't blame "the wife" because I haven't had one of those for 25 years. LOL!! ;)

Thing is, I wasn't even cutting anything when I sliced open my index finger. I was actually putting the knife away and just absent mindedly ran my finger along the edge. Blood was pumping out of it pretty fast, so must have nicked a small vein/artery. Just applied pressure to it and wrapped tightly w/a bandage.

Removed the bandage after 24 hrs and it was still bleeding. Just cleaned it up, applied some antibiotic ointment and rebandaged it. Been checking it every night and it stopped bleeding last night. So, I decided that I didn't need to go to the e-room to get stiches.

Also been taking an oral antibiotic that I had on hand every night since. No sign of infection. Good color at the tip. So, no loss of blood flow. Finger is still stiff but I can bend it. Just don't want to overdo that due to the risk of reopening the wound but I'm just relieved that my trigger finger is still working.

Just airing it out today, which I find promotes healing, but will rebandage it if/when I go out. Should heal up completely w/in couple of weeks.

If this had been a bit shallower I might have forgone the stitches, but one look (maybe 2) and I knew it was the best option.

Funny thing is, this is the same finger that I almost cut the tip off of w/a hedge trimmer. 🤷‍♂️

It was BAD!!!! Went to the ER for that!!! 🫣

But had to drive myself there -- about 20 miles & about 30 mins away -- w/my finger wrapped in whatever I had at the time after being rejected at an urgent care center, only a few miles away, where they said they couldn't handle it. Think they put 4-5 stiches in it, that I removed later on my own.

Still have some numbness in the tip of the finger because of that but it still works. :)

OBTW, just took my F250 into the shop to get repainted yesterday.

Just the top & hood but it should make a world of difference. Also replacing the grill, headlight & turn signal casings & fog lamps & they're going to repaint the wiper blade arms/stems & lower front bumper valance too.

Truck should be ready to pickup by Friday (3 days from now). Will post before & after pics when I get it back.

Is this in the new one?

That's my old f-450. It has a little hydraulic system to power the liftgate and the drain where the hydraulic pump sits clogged up and it flooded and the motor is water damaged. We had a situation with the liftgate down and it wouldn't come back up, 30 mi from home. We got it cleaned up and put back together well enough and it's working again. For now. But it does have the Ford curse. It has touched one...

Did you spray it down and sand the contract points to get it to work again?

Funny story me and my friends built a few lowriders when we were young and that pic brought back some memories

Run 96 volts to your liftgate and have fun catapulting things off of it

Then it will know who's boss while it's on fire lol

Time to take it down to the crick.

Grouse are frigging thick-headed! On my cabin driveway they will just stand there until you get really close, then fly 20’ only to land on the drive again. When they have young ones with them, they will puff up and challenge our atv’s- literally getting within s few feet before trying to lead the little ones into the brush. I could likely harvest them with a Katana. 🤣
I don’t hunt them and try to give them plenty of area to thrive.

It's funny - I could go for a hike around here and probably hit a forest grouse with a rock. And I can't tell you how many times they've scared the living shit out of me, cruising through the mountains pre-dawn, when I'm hunting for something else. But when I go out deliberately for grouse with a dog, they can be wiley as hell and you better be fast with a shotgun if you want to hit them when they bust in thick woods. They can be an infuriating bird, but then other times it can be stupid fun...

I thought I might try a serrated edge on these fireman's breaching tools (sharpened pry bars) but I'm not liking it.

I don't like a serrated edge in general but I thought this might be a good application for one. But now that I have it in hand, I don't think so.

First, serrated edge? Yuck.

Second, that looks like something I could hurt myself with, how many can I get?
