I noticed that too! I’ve got quite a few peices in my yard myself. There was an ancient creek bed on our property where I grew up and I pulled so many freaking cool pieces of petrified wood out of it.

Just having a bit of fun...no offense intended. A million years ago I was a blue belt in Taekwondo, for whatever that's worth.

I know there is much talk here about how badly Ford cars hold up, but does anyone here have any thoughts re the Ford Explorer? I need to buy a new car pretty soon and they're on my radar, contending with the VW Atlas and their ilk.

My wife’s best friend just loves hers and has had no issues in the last year since new. Obviously the police packages are set up differently, but I think it says a lot how many Explorers are duty vehicles.

A couple of folks I know who had VW SUV’s liked them, but said they were quite expensive with maintenance.

They also run Chrysler products. So I wouldn't make too much of that...

Sorry I don't know much about the drive train , but pervious explorers had a corrosion problems with the aluminum hoods

I have not seen this problem yet on the newer model explorer (not saying it will not happen)

And SpyderPhreak I just painted 2 fenders and blended the doors on a new pearl white Toyota SUV , reason is the paint peeled off all the way down to the sealer.... don't know if this is an isolated problem or an upcoming big issue

My advise is, don’t necessarily shop brand, shop dealership.
That’s where a lot of problems arise on the car forum I follow.
Mechanical can be fixed. Greed is too common.
A salesman once told me, “There’s an ass for every seat.” BRAHHAHA.
No sale….
