I've subscribed to Bill Maher's moniker to describe my own political leanings these days, and I think it's a great term.

90's Liberal. And in todays world, being a 90's Liberals means I'm basically center/ center right imo.

In the US, it appears you're going through a massive policy/ voter demographic switch between the Left and Right not seen since Nixon. IE, the GOP is not the defacto party representing Security and the Military anymore. We're seeing it a bit up here in Canada now as well with the current conservative party leader is actively courting unions, pandering to minority groups... Things that side of the spectrum never did before.

Anyway... it's will be very interesting to see where the dust settles in politics across the western world over the coming decade.

I have thoughts... but I don't say them on the internet....

I'm keep my thoughts down low status with my outward appearance throwing off what I really am thinking hahahaha

I think you and I both know what that would look like. And what would happen. 😔
I don't know. I know what it's easy to think...but...the U.S. mindset was deep in a different place when war broke out in Europe...and the lean toward isolationism was more prevalent than not over here. We were behind the curve on ships and planes etc. Yet we provided aid to the Brits and after Pearl Harbor the whirlwind was reaped.

I'd like to think that gene is still lying dormant in the nation.

I like to think that America's exceptionalism is largely attributable to the fact that we are direct descendants of people who were not risk averse and were willing to take some chances. And natural selection was actively working. Working overtime even. We have some pretty strong people in our bloodlines that make us great. Not a lot of weak meek people here. You don't have to agree with all of somebody's opinions to recognize that most people that you meet in this country are pretty awesome. Sometimes we might tend to hate one another when it's anonymous but once we get talking to somebody, even if we don't see things the same way, I think that most Americans find other Americans pretty cool.

Folks are more thin skinned nowadays and are quick to be outraged at whatever. When I was growing up, my friends and I would crack racial jokes at one another without batting an eye, and no one would get mad, just laugh hysterically at the joke. I’ve heard my fair share of asian jokes too, my friends used to blind fold me with dental floss all the time.

Talking to someone face to face brings more civility and humility to the situation, unlike online, where you can be an ass with little to no consequences.

I used to believe that when I came here. I don't anymore since - in 2020 - when they arrested people on the street where I live, for not wearing masks. This here is just a bunch of old guys talking .... there is a massive cultural shift happening in the younger age groups.

"It didn't used to be like this"

The scary part for me is not the conflict, but the conformity on either side.
