Random Thought Thread

I started to say something about how the current administration, love them or hate them, they have some competent people in some important positions and they are doing a pretty good job dealing with the Russian cyber war. It doesn't get a lot of news, but if you've read about some of the actions they've taken, it's pretty cool. Not to get too political, but the other party was less focused on competent people in important positions than the career politician that we currently have in office. I don't like either one of them, but I do think there are some unsung heroes in our intelligence agencies right now.
So true. The CHIPS act alone was far more of a killing blow to the CCP than anything the previous admin ever tried.

weird, eh?
not sure if it's obvious it's Russia, though. India makes more sense given the 4 guys alleged to have assassinated Hardeep Singh Nijjar- at India's government 's direction- were arrested a few days ago.
I guess it's possible. But Russia has already hit numerous other 'Western' targets, and their capabilities are more widely known that India's. Then again, pre-war, I would have thought Russia was far more capable than what they've shown, specially when it came to cyberwarfare... Admittedly, I'm totally ignorant on India's more advanced capabilities, but I don't doubt they have some.

I think if it were India, Trudeau would already be holding a press conference about it. He let China compromise his party and our elections, he'd love nothing more than to distract away from that fact. 😁

I'm a centrist moderate and people like me are getting attacked from both sides and I'm tired of it. Next person calls me a rhino gets dagged
I'm not ashamed to be one.

I took a long and very detailed survey a couple years back that evaluated where you stood on the axis of left / right and more gov't / less gov't.

I was a bit right and slightly north of dead center...(to the less gov't side).

I can understand arguments and rationales from divergent points of view...and I'm generally willing to find compromise where it can be found, and a solution that works best for most.

Of course, there are times when a decision has to me made, (as in a military or LE operation), and then once made, the time for discussion is over.

Otherwise, I'm mostly happy to have (representative) democracy do its thing. And am an enemy of anyone who wants to impose their "better way" upon us.

Last weekend in Munich, Christopher A. Wray, the F.B.I. director, said that hacking operations from China were now directed against the United States at “a scale greater than we’d seen before.” And at a recent congressional hearing, Mr. Wray said China’s hacking program was larger than that of “every major nation combined.”

From the „unbiased“ Times, no less:

Groups in Russia and China have been actively trying to hack any and everything, and the problem is twofold;

1) Until the companies get hacked, the bean counters don't want to spend money on beefing up their cyber security.

2) most of the companies who've fallen to ransomware attacks, have ended up paying the hackers Million$$$, which just adds incentives for them to actively seek out more targets (which is a reason they target Healthcare, and energy industries, as well as big corporations. They know those companies have the money to pay off big).

I’m happy to hear you say that, Nathan. I think my mom blew a gasket when I said something positive about the current administration and now believes that I am a socialist. Our political environment is so toxic that people demonize their opposition and can’t admit when the “other side” does a good job.

Politics have become so divided that people can't even agree on the facts to even be able to discuss issues.

It has been broken by mainstream media for profit and it has been broken by our adversaries. A mixture of recreational outrage and subversive disinformation. But America's ability to get things done has been compromised by our current political atmosphere to the point that I believe it represents a national security issue. Anybody who actually likes our options right now (incompetent pathological liar versus woke career politician with dementia) might need their head examined so I would encourage every person who is not in a battleground state to vote for Kennedy (who doesn't stand a chance) to send a message to the parties of our broken system that we've had enough. We desperately need a return to reality.

It used to be that individual people had their own views on things

Now, if you know a person's view on one thing, you can usually guess what their views are on all the other hot ticket items because people "belong to" and subscribe to a specific political leaning and opinions that are not compatible with the group think are unacceptable. They have a pre-packaged belief system that they are expected to conform to, and they don't even realize it. They find an echo chamber and only consume media that reaffirms their belief system. It's literally pathetic.

You have people on both sides describing the other side as sheep, without the slightest bit of recognition of the irony of it.

And then there's Qanon and their insane conspiracy theories that have become disturbingly mainstream amongst my own party. It's a shit show out there.

Interesting! Nathan could've easily either said, "...will get shivved" or "will get pig sworded" but he clearly and I think quite deliberately said, "... will get dagged"... My take is this boys/girl, the Integral Dagger 2.0 must be on the horizon :)

No comments on the rest of the stuff.

I wonder how many customers I'll lose today for stating some objective verifiable facts that don't conform to somebody's belief system so my views are "unacceptable"

It didn't used to be like this

And there lies the biggest problem. There is no compromise. No what's best for our country and future. Instead everyone is absolute "my/our way is right and you're wrong."

I lean slightly right for many things, but I like to think I can stay in balance and I can accept others have good ideas and that we are best when we are united and working together. There's nothing this country cannot accomplish when united.

Sadly a big part if not majority of the country can't even tell what's true and what's not, and worse many don't try to figure it out they just regurgitate what they hear as truth.

I blame magenta!
