Where's the party?

All this condom talk just brought back a long lost memory. I learned the word "prophylactic" from Leisure Suit Larry before I even knew what a condom was.

I still remember learning what a Spiro Agnew was after my friend and I had to do the age verification tests dozens and dozens of times just to play the game. All for 8-bit pixelated nudity...

What is an unusual thing that you EDC?

I carry ear plugs with me everywhere I go
I carry a small pair of knipex cobra pliers and knipex wrench pliers. I've run into several situations where i needed to use them. Very very handy. Fix-it sticks with a set of various bits and a small prybar attachment have also come in handy.

I also have a very small, thin double sided tape measure. One side displays diameters in "inches to 100ths". It's great for measuring hoses when we're offroading and need to repair something, but I've used it more at home depot when I want to check the length on precut items, etc.

Most of what I carry is held in a small zip up pouch in my pocket. Pretty convenient.

I'll probably add ear plugs now that you mention it!

Being a machinist, having ear pro in your pocket makes a lot of sense. "Forgot the ear muffs. Can't be bothered to go grab them. Got plugs in my pocket".

I don't EDC foam plugs, but I've been EDC'ing Musicians ear plugs for years. Sometimes I wind up going somewhere, or doing something on the spur of the moment, where it's just too loud, but I still want to be able to hear SOME things and not have everything muffled.

Musicians ear plugs work well for that. They attenuate loud sounds/noises, but still allow me to hear conversations and music (eg. Went to a bar that had a live band. Only table was up front, with ear bleeding volumes. Popped them in. OK. Tolerable).

I DO keep plugs and ear pro in the vehicles, for unplanned range trips etc.

I always wear Eargasm Earplugs at concerts. It's so much more enjoyable when your ears aren't ringing until the next day, not even to mention the hearing damage that results. I stopped going to concerts after going to a particularly loud Florence and the Machine concert until I found those plugs.

Yup.

And although I rarely go to cinemas nowadays, I do recall having been in one or two, where the audio was cranked way above THX specs. Didn't have Musicians plugs back then, but that would've been another great use. Able to hear the dialogue, and not have to literally stick my fingers in my ears during actions scenes and when the music score was peeling paint off the walls.

P.S.
Eargasm plugs are the exact ones I have, too. Tried the Etymotic Musicians plugs first. Learned the hard way, that those stupid stems that stick out, hurt your ears if they're bumped when someone goes to cup their hand over you ear to tell you something in a LOUD bar.

These pig swords have been particularly challenging. The grinds are largely freehand ground (there is a twist) and a long double edge piece like this is the exceptionally difficult to do well. If you go to the show and start picking up stuff like this, you won't find very many good examples.

We're bringing some swords to the show and instead of having a uniform price structure like we usually do, I'm going to price the best pretty high and go down from there.

I just shot this video of the best before bringing it in for Jo to assemble. This is the best example of this kind of geometry that I have ever seen and I'm really proud of Mark and myself for pulling this one off as well as we did.

That is absolutely gorgeous. Will the dual edge Shivs end up looking similar to this?

DROOOOOOOL!!!!

No

We looked at a lot of variations and the variation that looks cool, functions and balances out is a variation of what we originally did with our first double edge shives which was modifying the swedge into a bevel and sharpening it part way back.

I'll have to post some screen dumps of the different designs that we considered before settling on what we had done in the first place
