Random Thought Thread

Speaking of kids, my baby girl is the hardest working human I know. On top of maintaining top grades in class, she plays in two sports (club and high school teams), cleans for our elderly neighbor, just started driving tractors for a summer job, cares for her horse that she pays for herself, dog/housesits for her friend's family and amidst all of that, she still manages to be a kind and wonderful human. I couldn't be prouder. She's awesome.

(Now I just wish I could bottle up whatever gives her energy because I sure as hell could use it.)

I too have great kids (three) 🤗

Pàdruig Pàdruig Sounds like you did a helluva job Dad, I can truly imagine how proud you must be. If I can say just half of that years from now I can die a happy man.

And yep she was my first 3/23. So if all works out this one will be around that same time in 25.

Congratulations D dericdesmond , may you have the strength and patience for another one, hopefully a boy this time?
Thx Martin definitely need it. Wouldn’t be upset if a boy one bit but after having my first girl,,,im sold on them. Plus we already got everything.

Thanks guys everyone have a great week.

Random: we are having our house in town painted. There were some areas with chipped paint on fascia and porch top rail that the painters simply scraped off the loose area and painted, leaving ugly/sharp/jagged edges. I asked the main guy why it wasn’t feathered, and his answer was “painters paint, we don’t sand”. The conversation went downhill quickly.

Work of any kind without pride in the job done just pisses me off. I don’t care if it is heart surgery or mowing a lawn- do it right!

Ugh, so right!

How can one even say such a thing with a straight face? (what the painter said) You're paying them to do a good job (obviously!) and they have the guts to basically say "yeah, well we're just doing a poor quality job and that's that". Seriously?!

So how did things turn out at the end of that conversation? Is he going to sand now or did you fire them?

I feel your pain.

I dislike painting myself but my experience with "pro" painters over the years has been piss poor. Cheap paint that they thin even further, little to no proper prep work, and they generally are more interested in quantity and speed rather than quality and attention to detail.

As such, hate it as I do, I do my own painting when the need arises.

It got heated quickly. After he said that they do not sand, and that feathering mean’t that they blend the paint- I said “bullshit! Feathering means sanding to take down the sharp edges and blend it”. He said if we wanted smooth surfaces we should have requested that! He also said that they do not caulk any areas that were not previously caulked. I hate getting mad, but I am not quiet when I get to that point. I told him that they should advertise a shitty job for x price, less shitty job for x price, and done properly for x price. I told them to get the ——off my property. So angry!

We have had some good ones here, but many have shut down. Exterior painting here is a madhouse with weather limiting the time it can be done. Sometimes the service folks know customers are vulnerable. Sad that these have a decent reputation. When I told the main guy he was a shitty painter with no pride, he said he never heard that before. I told him nobody looked closely before if that was his work standard.

Well said, point taken, perfectly done!

I can honestly say that I have never listened to the radio in any of my trucks ever.

Mostly because they are Fords, so the radios are broken

But even the ones where the radio is probably not broken, I don't ever turn it on. ....got to keep an ear out for something breaking...

Wow.
My Dad was very successful. He taught us, if you train in the beginning to be detail oriented, it becomes second nature. People will notice.
You don’t save time or money being slipshod.
