Random Thought Thread

I just got home from work to find my elderly neighbor sprawled at the bottom of his driveway. He busted up his elbow pretty bad and was bleeding, but it doesn't look like he hit his head. He's lucky it wasn't a day or 2 earlier when it was 102 degrees.

Long story short, me and another neighbor got him up and I cleaned his elbow. I met his daughter that lives in the basement. She doesn't have the strength to help him around and I think she may be mentally handicapped for a few reasons. I told her he needed stitches and that she needs to take him to the hospital. We helped get him into the truck so she could take him.

Anyhow, it doesn't sound like he's got any other family and I'm pretty concerned for his welfare. I talked to him for a good while and I'd be surprised if he doesn't have early onset alzheimers. I don't want to be one of those butt-insky neighbors, but I'm wondering if I should call someone to check on the situation. At the very least I'm going to get him a walker.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this?

Local government agencies often offer programs specifically designed to assist elderly individuals without caregivers. I’d suggest contacting your local social services department

Check in your area for Office of the Aging. The title may vary, but you can ask about a welfare check. They will visit and evaluate.

Why is it that I can heat up a piece of bacon in the microwave in like 15sec, but that same piece of bacon won't even get warm when on a plate with a couple pancakes for over a minute?
Your pancakes absorb a lot of the radiation. Here's an interesting article about the myth that microwave ovens target a specific resonant absorption band in water.
(water does still absorb a lot of the radiation)

If Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist needs a new vehicle, then he should get something as cool as his blades…..

I ordered a new base model Ford truck with a 33K tow capacity rating

So, for a little less than what a house used to cost when I was first looking at homes, I'll have a truck with no carpet, or much of anything else. Fortunately air conditioning comes stock. And I guess they did away with roll up windows? But a 500 horsepower turbo diesel is going to be cool. Even with the tunes and modifications that I have on my other trucks, they're not comparable.

I did add running boards so Jo can get in.

My last trip to Illinois towing back a small machining center with my old Ford is going to be my last time dealing with that kind of bullshit. I'll keep the old F-450 with the lift gate for runs to the dump and my beloved old F250 will be used for local trips, but I'm done flogging the shit out of it.
