Random Thought Thread

Hi All, I am new to CPK. I had a few open orders at a now defunct company that are going to be unfulfilled, so looking for something else. Does anyone know if it is possible to get replacement scales for CPK? For example, for the FK2 or Basic field knife? If I can find one for sale, can I purchase scales to swap to my color preference? Thanks!

Yes, there are various scales available for the BFK, and they can be swapped with the FK2, but the BFK scales don’t have the lanyard hole cutouts the FK2 scales do.

Thanks for your response. Can I reach out directly to CPK to purchase these? Or do I need to look for postings of individuals that might happen to have extras?

If you send multiple emails to Jo asking "where's my knife, where's my knife!!!" before the end of next summer I will personally put a booger in the box when we ship it.

I might do this just so I can have a source from which to clone you 😈

Glad to hear folks are all safe from the hurricanes! 🫣 Blues Blues especially!

Been a crazy few months. Did a bucket-list 3-day fishing/camping float trip in the Gunnison Gorge, spent 5 days in Alaska fishing and sightseeing in August, went Dove hunting, went Antelope hunting in WY, fished the salmon run on the Upper Gunnison, and I am heading out to Eastern CO this evening for Muzzleloader Deer.

Even when I don't have time to post, I'm always reading here...

BRING THE EDC!!! 😈

Welcome to Kolorado!

*shrug* Idunno. I can have anything I want, I always go for Delta 3V

My dilemma is I have an older EDC in 4V (best edge retention but worst corrosion resistance), and another EDC in D3V (good balance not quite stainless); but I want the latest version.

So I thought having at least one in Magnacut with Ti hardware as an “okay to stay wet and sweaty for a while” knife should be my next choice. THEREFORE I preordered Magnacut and I’ll have a “saltwater” knife, while I live in the middle of CO with no beaches nearby.

I avoided the satin and swedge to save $250, thinking if I added those that it would also make it easier to damage the MC blade if it’s facing hard use.

Should I change that to D3V?

You know, you've already saved $250 by skipping the swedge and the satin....another one is only $290....I'd say NOT buying another one in 3V would be foolish.

I agree with B Burke ! Lol

Politicians economics - we saved 3% by cutting toilet paper to one-ply, after we secretly increased the budget by 20%. We can save you 2% more if we replace soap with dirt from outside, and you just rub a little dirt innit 😂 Or we cut the budget increase by 50% so we’re good at saving you money, except the budget had secretly doubled in the first place before the cut.

I saved $250 by not doing pretty grinds, but it’s not money I had to spend right now 😵

So of course you convinced me to try to buy a D3V version in a Friday sale, but next Friday I have to pick up my wife from the airport and go to the grocery store 😪

I’ll need to visit the proxy thread now…

BTW; yes, I’m pedantic.

CPK has Sales, and Pre-orders.

There is no Pre-sale. Pre-sale, is when everyone is waiting at their computers and phones, right before 3pm Eastern Time.

Back in my auto racing days, the similar one that bugged me, was detonation, and pre-ignition.

There’s no pre-detonation.
Detonation = the fuel air combo explodes violently under heat and compression instead of normal combustion with a standard wavefront. It’s much more violent, and can break piston lands and rings.

Pre-ignition is when the fuel air mixture ignites before the spark from the spark plug is supposed to ignite it (usually from carbon buildup that retains a glowing ember). It’s like waaaaay advanced ignition timing, and this one bends connecting rods and breaks crankshafts, as the result is that the expanding gases are pushing down on the piston far too early in the cycle, as the piston is still rising on the compression stroke.

There is no such thing as pre-detonation. That would be the time before detonation occurs.

Pre-detonation is the explostion of the confining chemical explosive charge that initiates the nuclear reaction in a REAL bomb. None of this internal combustion trivia. OK, I made that sh*t up but it sorta makes sense.

the BFK is still in production so I'd expect they'd have scales for that model. you should reach out.

unless you want bright blue, in which case definitely don't reach out before I get first dibs on them ;)

I unironically spelled the word forty yesterday fourty.

My lawyer pointed out that 14 is spelled fourteen.

I'm going to start spelling 40 phoretea.

If English isn't going to take itself seriously, why should I.
Have you seen the Nate Bargatze sketch from SNL with George Washington? “And I have a dream we’ll have a country that has a special word for the number 12….and we’ll call it a dozen.”’ “Will we have special words for the other numbers?” “No just that one.”

Ah, so a dozen grades? No.
