Random Thought Thread

Friggin' leaves.

I don't wanna talk about it.
Before leaving for Mooresville, I offered to pick up the dog shit in the back yard. My beautiful wifey said she’d take care of it.

Well, she didn’t….a wind storm blew in….and all of the dog shit was covered by leaves and broken branches. Landmines, booby traps, and mushy surprises everywhere. Not cool.

Fast forward, I finally finished battling it all yesterday. The yard now looks pristine and we’re having a massive Prime Rib and crab cookout tonight for my nephew’s b day. 😜

Leaves and yard cleanup here today. I am curious why the elm trees in front are completely barren of leaves now, and the elm trees in back are still almost completely green. I get that to look forward to in about 4 weeks.

Like, seriously. What gives?

And 100% can confirm leaves and dog$#!t is a high risk situation.

I have a theory and you're not going to like it.

The barren trees might be sick. You might have Dutch elms disease.

I have a big beautiful ash behind my house that is sick and it is doing the same thing, not holding on to its leaves very well. Different illness, but the same symptom perhaps.

My random thought for the day:

Recycling is not working and it is making the world worse.

You know how we thought maybe we should make biofuel and we started putting ethanol in the gasoline. And, in order to form the infrastructure, the government got involved.

It was a good idea but it didn't work. We tried it and it is now clear that it is not a good idea. But we keep doing it.

Recycling is the same way

I read somewhere that men my age have almost a spoonful of microplastics in their brain.

Microplastics are becoming a real problem. And it's a pervasive one.

Almost nothing that you recycle is actually getting recycled. There are a few things like PET water bottles and polyethylene milk jugs that are, but the vast majority of the stuff that you "recycle" are not recycled.

Product comes from China in shipping containers, and those containers go back with recyclable waste as ballast.

In theory it gets sorted and recycled. In reality they dump it in the ocean and it has formed the Great Pacific garbage patch and now healthy foods like salmon are going to come with some long-term health consequences because we have spoiled the ocean because, instead of just burning the plastic waste, we put it in the ocean and use one of our greatest resources as a trash dump.

There actually are some things that should be recycled, but if it is small and messy and attached to other stuff, like a k-cup coffee container, just throw it away. Save the planet.

Possibly.
The city sprayed the ones in front (no leaves) this year. We have been here 13 years and they have always done this.

Most our neighborhood is like this. Some are done, some are green.

Did i ever tell you the story about my dad and the janitor.......

Hahahahaha

My dog Jack. Her diet is about 90% microplastics.

I think it's beginning to affect her brain. She's starting to get a little weird.

She appears to be turning this "dog toy" into another kind of "toy".

I don't like it

I think so. Whatever it is, it's the same kinda tree as the green one. Those pictures are both from today.
Branch shapes looks off for an elm or it has a shitton of water sprouts? I've seen the sprouts on elm before but the overall shape reminded me of box elder a bit. Either way if they're the same species the one without leaves isn't well or at least stressed for some reason.
