Wow. What a location. Is that Wyoming? I am jealous

Was it settled by French trappers originally?

French Canadian trappers, actually: Francois and Louis Verendrye in 1742–43. They say the town is named after some governor, and you don’t make friends pronouncing it the French way. Lots of Native American history (Sheepeater, Shoshone, petroglyphs everywhere).

6950 ft high, micro-climate due to the river. It gets cold, but much less snow than on the other side of the continental divide, like in Jackson Hole which is about 75 miles away.

Butch Cassidy had a ranch here once.

The Windriver steams here in winter - warm springs everywhere. We own half the river for about a km. One day, I’ll put a generator in there … we’re already off the grid except for electricity.

Sounds like an awesome location.

Thanks for that mate 🙂

I would have said do-bwah, how is it pronounced?

I’m Australian, but slowly building points to hunt WY, hopefully in the next couple of years. I’d like to do some touring around the state while I’m there to see different places/towns/folks.
