BIG shout out to B bluemax_1 for his Latex mattress advice here in this thread back in July. I just ordered one of the recommended beds today based on his advice and some of my own research! I expect this will sleep better than what we had been considering, as we were able to fully customize both sides of the bed for my wife and I, and it was significantly less expensive than what I was looking at previously. Thank you good sir!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I've been starting to look at latex matresses. I'm curious what matress brand you went with?

Went with the Latex Mattress Factory (LMF) Luxerion. Price couldn't be beat. They're having a Black Friday sale right now, $600 off Luxerion mattresses, 5% off your cart total, and 2 free shredded latex pillows (although I suspect they're always having some sort of sale, as the Veteran's Day sale before this one was exactly the same). Online pricing you'll see on the website includes tax and shipping. They allowed me to fully customize the layers, no charge, which was necessary because I weigh almost 100# more than my wife. We upgraded the top layer to Talalay foam too, but there was a charge for that. NONE of these options are available if you order online, you have to call and talk to them.

I also learned that there are only a handful of Latex mattress foam makers that make the 100% Dunlop Latex (and only two in the world for the Talalay type), so the disparity in pricing between some of the sellers selling the same stuff is total BS. Do your homework type of thing.

Good question. Mine was getting long in the tooth, ~14 years old (thought 12 years old until I looked), and the top layer of memory foam was starting to split/tear in places. So, totally depends. I wouldn't go spending money if it's not necessary.

There’s also a distinct difference between how memory foam feels, vs latex foam. I’m just not a fan of memory foam.

Latex foam is soft, yet supportive, and it doesn’t take a set/form the way memory foam does. A few decades ago, I tried laying on Tempur-Pedic’s top of the line mattress. I realized after laying on my side for 10-15 minutes, I had a hard time rolling over, because the memory foam had taken a set, and I was laying in a ditch. Even soft latex foam doesn’t do that.

Yeah, I'm hoping that I'll no longer wake up every time I turn over. Sometimes it feels like climbing out of a hole. Worst case, it goes back in 100 days if we're not happy. I don't think that's going to happen.

Memory foam gases off a lot of chemicals too. We recently got a new bed, wanted a latex as they’re meant to be the most healthy but couldn’t get one locally. Got a normal spring mattress. Wasn’t even a fancy one and still cost $8k

Edit: I butchered that, it was $8k retail but we got it on sale. Still expensive. Upgraded from a queen to a king so when the kids jump in bed we don’t fall off the edge.

That’s crazy.

One of many things that’s great here, is the options. Numerous retailers, many with free shipping even clear across the country.

As I’d mentioned in that post a few months ago, most of the latex foam in the world, is manufactured by just a few companies, so it makes sense to just price shop to look for the best price for what you’re looking for.

Why are most companies charging ~2x - 3x what Latex Mattress Factory is charging? I don’t know. Are they really marking them up THAT much more? Most of the other customizable latex mattresses were in the $3k - $5k range for a California King. When I got mine on sale, it was $1,399 delivered. The price has gone up since, like everything else, but $1,499 for a CA King, plus 5% off with the code, is still way below what all the other retailers are asking.

Damnit, I had a couple good jokes to post at your expense, but now that you edited kids into the mix I'll let it go... something about "before it was even delivered"...no, letting it go.

There are options here - if you’re in the city. We’re country hicks out here.
But Aus is a ripoff with pretty much everything, being an island half way around the world from everywhere allows businesses to tear the consumer a new one.
Guns, knives, beds - anything really.
