I used to bow/knife hunt feral hogs on a ranch in Texas that had a Dachsund. It would tag along and once a hog was down, that dog would be tearing at the hide (scrotum) like a rabid hound. At the end of the day he would fall asleep on my lap. Never really cared for small dogs, but he was super cool.

When the family went hiking in the woods when I was a kid (Germany), it wasn’t uncommon to come across a ranger with a “Dackel” as we say in German. Rough-haired ones were more common - better in winter. They are fearless and stubborn working dogs, bred to follow foxes and badgers (Dachs = Badger) into their dens.

I wouldn’t mind having one - would probably stand up to my Rotti easily.

The original Dachshund (that fascination with etymology in middle school. Dachs = badger. Hund = hound), were bred specifically for those traits. (*** that etymology fascination also made it easy to understand the proper pronunciation vs some folks who pronounced it “DASH- und”, and others who thought what they heard people say, sounded close enough to Datsun 😅).

Nowadays, they focus on breeding wiener dogs (emphasizing the long torso and short legs), which results in many of them having back/spine issues when they get older. All for aesthetics, instead of the original purpose of working breeds. Some breeders do the same thing with German Shepherds, emphasizing an aesthetic that increases the risk of hip problems. 😕

That kinda sucks. I'm a bit surprised...but not entirely.
Many online sites have shipping options for the 48, and either don’t ship to AK and HI, or have very expensive shipping to those states. I’m not surprised about ammo being one of the difficult items, between the ‘hazardous materials’ and the weight.

I was surprised when he mentioned getting a couch shipped through Amazon 😅

I'm well aware of the weight and of the restrictive policies of most vendors, (as well as carriers)...but "not an option" seems more restrictive still.

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet. (Pun somewhat intended.)

No surprise but, mail order ammunition was outlawed in California several years ago. It has to be purchased in person with an id and a quick background check. No waiting period is required. Hunting is only allowed with nonlead ammunition.
I remember that...hopefully going forward there will be a chance that it will be overturned for you guys.

Ammoseek dot com is a good resource.

Actual sellers would be palmettostatearmory dot com, true shot ammo, grabagun dot com..... can't remember the others
PSA has been good when I've ordered from them. They are just over the border in SC. Also MassAmmo, Target Sports, and a few others that don't come readily to mind. That's why ammoseek has been so good in the past for locating the best prices. Sometimes the least likely source has the best deal, and I usually forget them after not ordering from them for a while. (But I do save my user name and password for each site when needed again.)

Pro tip for those of you who may not have ordered ammo online in the past...don't buy simply based upon the price per box (or per round) of the ammo. Factor in the shipping costs and any taxes levied before ponying up. Sometimes the outfit offering the best price per round won't have the best price delivered to your door. You'd be surprised how many people jump on the "best price" without looking into the details.

Most of the folks here will hopefully forgive my preaching to the choir.
