Random Thought Thread

Anyone have any experience with the Glock 43x? Pros and Cons over a "regular" Glock 17? This would be for a younger, inexperienced shooter.

Also got to handle a buddies FN 510 this week. Without shooting it, seems like a very nice gun, we'll thought out, good quality...
If you have access to a 1911, I’d start there with your young shooter.
I was taught as a kid by an Instructor at March AFB, one chambered round at a time, because he swore that every other pistol was easy to handle after that.
This also could be a bad idea because I personally don’t care for Glocks and I’d much rather use my 92fs or Model 59.

Some time in the late 90's to 2000. They wanted uniformity because not everyone had familiarity with all the various pistols available, nor were they qualified with them. This would be a problem if you had to pick up a partner's weapon in a shootout and were not familiar with cocking / decocking, safeties etc.

Up until then I had carried S&W Model 15, Model 19, Model 36, Colt Gov't Model (Series 70), S&W Gen 3 semi-auto (DAO), Glock 19 and 26. (Not counting long guns.) After that I had to carry their Glock 19 and 26 even though I had been carrying my own 26 and 19 on the job.

Funny story. They were the some of the only extended pinky rests available a few years ago.

Sig wasn't selling them directly and I had no other way of getting them. The SIG only came with one extended pinky rest and one flat.

I finally got more black factory ones, so now they're for the range only. But I also do like Spartan related stuff. 😁

Also good advise. Thank you! 🙂

I use to have a little skull on the back of my CCW to dress it up, but I ended up taking it off many years ago after reading a bunch of horror stories of completely legal kills, that turned into murder charges because the courts said they meant harm and murder because they had sayings and skulls and stuff on there duty pistols.

A lot of the stories about these sorts of matters are apocryphal at best, but it's never a good idea to give ammunition to anyone looking to prosecute you, especially when it's totally unnecessary.

The prosecution will say it goes to your state of mind, showing a predisposition or desire for the outcome that brought you to the courtroom as a defendant. Never give them an opening. It'll be harrowing enough without having to kick yourself in the ass for something easily avoided.

Anyway, it's unlikely to ever be a factor, but it could be.

Thanks Blues, you said it much better but that was exactly what I was trying to say.

You're welcome, Josh. I'm presuming a little here, but I think you're a lot like me in that you're your own worst enemy...and I never want to see you in harm's way when it can be sidestepped. (Sometimes being a nice guy isn't enough.)

My wife tells me the same thing. She’s mean, I’m surprised none of it has rubbed off on me yet lol.
