I chickened out on regretfully declined a job on an antarctic cruise ship a few years ago... Tierra del Fuego to Antarctic peninsula. And, hopefully, back.

God, I f***ing hate buying new electronics. I spent at least six hours setting up a new laptop and it's only about 85% complete. Half of it is that I am not a tech guy, but even then: six hours is too freaking long.

I ran into some hiccups transferring some files… then some licensing migration issues… then encryption issues… and then had to alter a bunch of the permissions on some apps. And then, because I’m slightly OCD, I had to organize some files that weren’t where they were supposed to be.

But once this puppy is at 98%, I might give the world domination thing a go.

Microsoft is ending support such as security updates for Windows 10 this autumn

And I am done with Microsoft

So I'm going to need to migrate to some other kind of operating system. Linux I guess.

I've been using Microsoft since Windows NT 4.0. I hated it back then too. This is going to be a bit of an adjustment.

For me personally, I feel like Windows peaked around Windows 7. I wish they could have left well enough alone and simply kept that working rather than the endless changes, the endless updates, the endless problems.

Their desire to stick a thumb into each and every one of my pies is a problem and it's time for them to go.

But I'm not sure how to make this transition. I'm old now.

...yet, still somehow more tech savvy than the kids today...

I switched to Mac about 15 years ago for home computer use. Love it - so much easier. No need to purchase the MS office suite. Learning Mac took time, small price to pay. If only my employer would make the switch…

I know Google is anathema, but I really like the simplicity of the chromebook. I suppose it is limited to some degree, but not really limiting for the things I want or need to do with a small laptop.

Having been the target audience of the Mr Rogers show when this joke would have aired, I can say with some degree of certainty that the Mr Rogers audience would have appreciated that joke at least as much as the Carson audience.
