A week!

In ICU!

How were you ever able to recover, financially?

Switzerland/Zurich. No problem.

Mom was in the ICU for safety - she had arthroscopic heart/valve surgery during her second pregnancy - first time they ever did that (it's a pretty well known hospital in Europe), so they kept her in the ICU for safety, mostly.

We were living in Ticino for my PostDoc back then, 200 miles away, so during that week, daughter #1 and me stayed in a room intended for temporary nurses. They were really nice to us ...

Being everyday in the pre-natal / incubator dept (to visit daughter #2) was very interesting. You guys joke about my hands .... I saw babies that were similar size, being cuddled by and responding to nurses and parents, super cute ... Life is amazing.

Roland.

Thanks, bud. Little miss arrived abruptly, 5 weeks early.

She gets to stay in the NICU for a while until her lungs get some more practice. Otherwise everyone involved is healthy and recovering nicely.

Mama is an absolute champ and is undoubtedly tougher than me. The things she had to put up with...🤯

Also, nurses are saints; I don't think there's any doubt of that.

Fyi, buckle up for some loosely controlled diatribes coming up about the health insurance industry in the near future. Billing will be illuminating.

Congratulations, my friend. Best wishes on a speedy recovery for mom and babe.

(EDIT: Apologies for the derailment, my friend, enjoy your family). (EDIT: Flippant observational comment removed lest it cause more unnecessary misunderstanding)

Suffice it to say, ol' Luigi becoming more and more of a folk hero starts to make more sense every day.
I am going to strongly disagree. And leave it at that.

(Much as I am no fan of the tactics of insurance companies...or the providers, for that matter, to a certain extent. My wife's recent broken arm / wrist and subsequent surgery to install a plate with four screws had the various entities billing over $75,000.00 to insurance. I'd never imagined that they could come up with a number like that, regardless of the fact that I will be on the hook for a much lower amount once the bills get to me.)

(Additional thoughts redacted for being unnecessarily provocative regarding how I think Luigi should be treated.)

Thanks, all, for the well wishes and support!! This is our second, so we know what's coming once we get home, our schedule is just thrown off a bit. Mama and baby are continuing to do well, just taking everything by increments.

Our original due date was Easter Sunday but the Lord decided St. Patty's day was more appropriate. Not sure what that says about my genetics, other than to say I'm excited to serve Guinness and Jameson at birthday parties now. I'm not even Irish.

Congratulations, my friend. Best wishes on a speedy recovery for mom and babe.

I didn't catch the controversy, but no need to apologize. I thrive on straying off topic. You have my blessing, which is worthless (congrats!).
