I get to an extent they don't want to overprescribe antibiotics. I called my local urgent care to inquire about precautionary antibiotics for the one I pulled off. She informed me they don't prescribe them unless the tick had been attached for 36 hours.

I always thought 24 hours was the general rule of thumb as far as lyme transfer and I know the one I had wasn't on for more than 12 or so. It hadn't begun to really embed and I check myself regularly while in the woods and for a couple hours after I've exited. Still think I would've felt a little easier getting a round of doxy just in case...lyme isn't one I want to fafo with.

You don’t want mess with Lyme. Doxy isn’t common enough to build a resistance to. But the results of Lyme can become dramatic if untreated, especially if too late.

You can also save the tick and send it in to tickreport and they'll check to see if it has Lyme.

I found a tick on me almost a day later one time and had a slight panic attack. It was engorged and everything you want to avoid seeing. When searching for symptoms, etc. their site came up. I sent in the offending tick and got the results by email back in 2 days (negative).
Never knew that was a real thing, that's pretty cool

Never knew you could send in a deer tick. I just saved then in Alcohol as proof.

The bullseye red circle was confirmation enough I presumed.

6 weeks to wait for confirmation by blood test was too long for me to wait.

By then, damage was already taking place, and long lasting after affects too.

Simple Doxycycline is all you need, right away.

For those folks who live/play in areas high with lyme disease (or other issues), the Wellness Company sells kits with different antibiotics (including doxy). It is legit, and you fill out a history and speak with a doctor on the phone prior to meds being sent. Cheaper than a visit to urgent care, and nice to have medications while traveling or away from home.
Just an fyi.

If you don't want to deal with ticks, get some Permethrin. You can wash clothes in it, such as hiking pants, socks, etc.

You can even use it on bandanas and dog collars for the pooches. Repels mosquitoes too.

I used to tie a permethin bandana around my long sleeve when camping to keep mosquitoes away. Works great.

When in tick country, I'll treat my hiking pants with it. I've never seen a tick since.
