Random Thought Thread

Also, how do you have zero feedback my friend?! I'm sure I would have left you positive feedback, but I guess our deal long ago was through PM. I think a thread is warranted...

Most of my purchases have been directly from some of makers here on BF and there have been a handful of others all via PM. I suppose as long as I am the buyer, making prompt payment is all that is needed. If/when I sell, I suppose I could refer to a member or two if the buyer has any concerns.
But I guess even that won’t be necessary as I am apparently now a member of the CPK team and can piggyback on their stellar reputation...;)

ETA: I should probably go back and edit the post where I disclaim that association...

The hare and the tortoise!

A while ago, IIRC during the first UF general sale I was way over confident because of my all past successes during the Fridays sales, scoring for myself whatever I wanted, proxying for various of our forum friends with great success rates and also easily demonstrating to myself the ability to be able to score anything that I wanted if there were around 10 units being offered. I have very very seldom come 1st if ever even during slower sales, perhaps 2nd a few times but 1st? Maybe once, but I can't be certain!

Anyway fast forward to that UF sale when I ended up eating crow and was humbled like I had never been before BY COMING IN AT # 31 :eek::eek:. I'm talking about the 31st post after Nathan's and not just # 31... Well, WTF happened? Hubris got the best of me and when I kept hitting COMAND R (a Mac refresh shortcut) like a chimpanzee sitting at a keyboard, the page was refreshing ever so slowly and when the thread finally appeared and I managed tp enter my claim and hit SEND, the fudging thing just froze! I was unprepared for that calamitous scenario when I just froze and in the second or so that I managed to get my composure back, a time which truly seemed like whole minute, I knew that I was truly FARQUED.

I learned a valuable lesson that day: sometimes when you're never gonna be the fastest based on one's past records, be a wise tortoise as opposed the usually sure footed fast hare. Why? the grounds could be very slippery that day and if you slip without a backup plan, you will be on the outside looking inside. For the upcoming FK2 sale, do you want to be that hare or that tortoise? Huh? Maybe I am trying to help you out of the goodness of my heart or just it could be that I may be psyching y'all out because I'm devious. You tell me :D

Huh?

Naw man, I'm not getting one. I already have two... :D

USPS you can deliver my new field knife any day now.
It’s only been sitting in transit with no updates since Saturday.
I am gonna get my new knife to only find out it’s been used and molested by those sorry postal workers
Shameful

The bad weather has affected many shipments and their status updates so don't fear the worst under these circumstances. I have packages outbound to my customers and those destined for the Midwestern states have not been updated as of 2/2 & 2/3. Although my packages do not contain knives and are of zero value to those along the transit, I'm certain that the root cause is still the same.

I’ve been reminded again this week how much the knife/blade industry is fueled by fantasy, whether bush craft, tactical/fighting, Viking axes or whatever flavor you want to choose. We’re a bunch of big (dumb) kids in a sense.

Random #2, maybe related in a funny way...
Saw a trailer for a Shaft remake last night. They used the Indiana Jones idea where the guy pulls a pistol to deal with the knife guy. Hollywood is not very creative.

The quote below attributed to Bob Loveless seems to speak to this, as well. At least for me. I thought it was pretty insightful. Just a bunch of cavemen. :)

"When a man picks up a knife, there's an old memory from the collective unconscious that surfaces. A knife is an atavistic experience. It was man's first tool and weapon. Man was chipping flint into cutting edges before he invented the wheel. No matter how sophisticated we become, a knife takes us back to the cave."
