Random Thought Thread

They should have dug out some old F4 Phantoms and made some low passes on afterburner. Loudest plane I ever heard.

New F-35 is significantly louder… 🫨

ETA - Having worked on that jet, I can tell you that a big reason why is the F135 engine is the most powerful single engine ever put in a fighter jet.

Engine testing out on the ramp on some of the first examples in Ft. Worth in the 2000’s shook the mile-long factory building so badly that large quantities of dust and other FOD were falling onto the production line from the high ceiling of the building. It was pretty nuts!

I hope to hear (and see) one someday!

Public Service Announcement . . .

So, there's evidence that hackers can hack accounts so that they can send DMs under the pretense of being the actual account holder, which puts the lie to those sellers on The Exchange who are making a big deal about only dealing w/others who can send DMs.

Don't believe or rely on that!

See: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/spyderco-paysan-sold.2046093/

I wasn't deceived (but I could have been) . . .

I sent the suspected hacker a DM but didn't pursue a deal w/him for the Paysan because I noted his limited and stale trade history & because the knife looked too good to be true for the asking price -- nearly NIP *(new in pouch) Paysan for just $400??? -- & because his response was evasive.

I then reported the deal to the admins for a violation of the sales rule because the asking price did not include the shipping cost which led to the further investigations by the mods & which then apparently led the suspected hacker to mark the knife sold & then flee.

Something just didn't seen "right" to me about the deal, which turns out to be the case.

Glad the mods caught him before he could scam anyone. 👏👏👏

So, just be forewarned, the "problem" is NOT agreeing to send PPFF as a method of payment.

The "problem" is that anyone can get scammed if they are not vigilant.

A good password & 2FA would NOT have prevented getting scammed in the above example!!!

That only protects your account from getting hacked. It does NOT prevent you from getting scammed by an a hacker who takes over an account w/o such protections. 🤷‍♂️
I believe he’s saying that if EVERYONE took security more seriously, it would be more difficult for scammers to gain access to accounts to pull their scams with.
